anybody can swallow a mike,thats the main reason death metal blows.can you honestly see yourself singing(growling)like that in your 40`s?these blokes all sound the same.to a cetain point thats what took down 80`s metal.good bands with horrible singers,vince neil thats a girls voice with no vibrato.to many high pitched so called singers,geddy lee is an absolute joke. these same bands would have much more respect with a good singer,dio,jeff scott soto,tony martin,etc,a true mans voice which is truly world class.oh yes they`re hard to come by but they`re out there. what say you people of the world

To me, you can't beat Ozzy or Rob Halford for metal voice. Death metal? Most sound the same.

mikael akerfeldt sounds pretty good. That's about it though.

I'm right with ya on this issue - I don't know what the hell happened to rock n' roll as I knew it several decades or more ago but its transformed into a generation of bands who all have some mideval looking dude on guitar, seven string, eight whatever and drummers that play at blistering dubble bass drum speeds and in comes the ugly biker tatooed mean and all that on vocals, or rather razorbladed pipes. I grew up on Deep Purple, Dio, Zeppelin, Sabbath and others who all were extremely distinct in their styles of music AND vocals. They had SOMETHING TO SAY and grew with each new release. Yeah they had their share of drug and alcohol problems but I turn to Dave Mustaine when it comes to what happens when a new breed of heavy metal comes along but they got a madman for a second guitarist - off he goes to form Megadeth and quickly asserts his position as a force to be wreckoned with. Some may prefer Hetfield's MANLY MAN vocals but I actually like Mustaines snotty little punk with a side order of metal attitude and overall musical delivery. He and Freidman were far better guitarists than Metallica's duo. If the music had survived beyond grunge it might have taken on the Nu Metal and won. Why these pioneers of HEAVY did not pull a new generation of the same musically palletable genre with them is a complete mystery. None of these new thrash/speed metal groups have singers like Plant or Dio. They don't even have their names as high up there to be quoted as above, they remain aloof and come from a place I ain't figured out yet. I'll bet none of these bands will be relevant in 2015, it will be like New Wave - there will be a handful inducted into the metal hall of fame, like Pantera who for me struck the right balance between the music and rough n' tough vocals without going to extremes. Unfortunately Amselmo's new project is sh*t; Dimebag must be up there thinking "dude, that's the best you can do without me? Get a clue man c'os it won't be of any consequence to that which came before". ROCK N' ROLL in general has some great bands out there but all this new technology is making it a footnote in someone's life, not a real cultural contribution. Take me back to 1972 - seemed a good year to state as the starting point for great rock and metal (Disco was bound to happen but its gone forver thank God). Only our generation can pull R&R from the brink. I believe my band is headed in the right direction; CHECK OUT MY URL IF YOU NEED PROOF.
