Glen, my good friend, baby, darlin', sweetheart. You're referring to a time when America was wild. You had to have a gun (as stupid as they were back then with having only one shot) because there were (1) no police, (2) Indians who wanted you out of their neighborhood and (3) horses, wild animals or (4) the need to just shoot yourself in the head when you realized you just lived in a very f**k up time period.

200 years ago, we had a very simple government of no government. And since there weren't any iPhones, Internet or Cable TV, it was easy to assemble a group of people into a little throwing a bunch of tea in the harbor.

So explain to me the necessity of owning a gun now? In a time when soldiers go to war and come back needing therapy and anti-psychotic meds? How would you use it? Do you live in a watch your back kinda neighborhood? How would it protect you if you were in Compton and a gang comes riding down the street and start firing off bullets at you? Will it give you comfort that lone night you're walking down the street and you see that stranger coming towards you? Will it calm down the two assholes at that party who want to start a fight with you for no reason at all? Or will it incite some enemies for next time around when you're not looking?

Sure, I'm positive there will probably that one or two times in your life where you may wish you had a gun and both of them would most likely to assauge your own ego. I've lived in South Central LA, I've run home many a nights in the bad neighborhoods of London long after the busses stopped running, I've slept in train stations. So at this point, I see no reason to have one in my house.

My favorite movie scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KX3OriDpgg - and he did it all without a gun! Ha ha!

You will never understand nor be able to accept the reality that the world is an ugly violent place.

In NY we have a congresswoman, Carolyn McCarthy, her husband was killed colin fergusen, on a local commuter train. In her own personal tragedy and anger she has been a severe proponent of gun control. God bless her and I can understand her loss. I also have a customer, a wonderful mother of four that almost lost her life also. She has a completely different view on why she took 4 shots into her very personal space, her body.

Only a criminal had a criminal weapon and committed a criminal act, and because NO one had a legal weapon many died.

Geeze... This sounds Just like Cambodia when a million died under pol pot, or 50 million died under stallin , or 200 million died under mao, or what about the 6 million that were killed by hitler. All unarmed citizens.

It's not going to happen in this country, not today, not tomorrow, not in any time that we keep our guns.

Funniest thing, People are so polite in states where gun control laws are not so restrictive

I'm gonna tell you a story. One night I came home from a party, late, and I saw a guy pull in behind me. I saw him in my side view mirror charging up towards my car like he was going to do something. I didn't see his face, only his chest to his thighs. It was like 3 a.m. and my heart started chugging away because I didn't know what to do. I called on my Guides to help me. I then leaned over and opened my glove compartment and pretending I was getting something out of it. I looked up in my rear view mirror and the guy ran back to his jeep, jumped in and skidded off. I can't tell you how many fights I've averted in a similar fashion.

There is a far greater power than a gun and you can't convince me that a gun will make me feel safe. I've learned to use other methods. And I know if I had a gun, it's like my damned cell phone, it would be nowhere around when I need it most. I rest my case.

Great story but I would have much more confidence if you had something to really back you up. Furthermore if gun control laws were not so restrictive ,this would be possible murderer would not have attempted this attack. Kudos to you, for you're own personal karma and strengths. But at that time you are still in the evaluation stage of a conflict, the beginning of a fight, By the time you use your cell phone you could be dead. So yes when you enter any dangerous situation you gotta know your limitations.

I'm just glad you still got a case to rest on. Glen

Frustrating, Chaeya, [ even more frustrating when you are married to me]
Just ask Gwen.

Every human being should have the right to bear arms. It's just downright stupid to try and eliminate guns from the populace. Makes about as much sense as Prohibition. If everybody had a weapon readily availabel in their residence and the crooks knew it they would think twice about breaking and entering. It's a fact that in those states that adopted right-to-carry, crime went down. Just about every homeowner in Switzerland owns guns. One of the reasons Switzerland is never invaded is the knowledge of a well-armed population. There are areas of Pakistan where everybody is armed and also gun making is a common profession. Those areas are avoided by militaries in the region. If Federal legislation is ever enacted that prohibits gun ownership I say it's time for states to start seceeding from the Union.

Glen, I didn't mean cell phone to use in an emergency, I meant the two are just never in reach when you need them most -- I go through this all the time. I can tell you now, you give me a gun, it's like giving me a dayplanner. They're cool at first, but they'll wind up lost. Someone will be breaking in my house and I'll wind up throwing a bottle at his head because I can't find my damn gun.

Still, people need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over this issue, it ain't gonna happen, trust me, aint' gonna. You guys will be able to have your rifles collecting dust in the closet or chasing after Daffy Duck on a river somewhere.

I remember in the 90s when the Los Angelino turned in their guns at the local po po office, the NRA was outside having a shizfit and where are we now 2011? It's like every ballot has new bathrooms for the school district and you vote yes and you don't hear anything then it's back on the ballot the next voting season. They will not outlaw guns in the US. It will fail even without digging up Charleton Heston for a Weekend at Bernies Remix with a rifle in his cold dead hands.
