I'm not making this stuff up. Read Genesis 33:10. "No, Please take the gift I'm giving you, because I've seen your face as if I were seeing the face of God and you welcomed me so warmly." That said, read the profile of Prevaler, of whom was the first volunteer, as you can witness! :D

Trouble with that is people like to weigh you in as if they are the almighty. I never tried to claim I'm a perfect Christian. I Know of only one. I Didn't mean to challenge your faith (in whhatever). Just tried to razz you into a challenge

Ah, I'm just getting back from a 5-day convention. No, what I said had nothing to do with you. You referred me to the Martins and I couldn't go there. I listen to Christian bands and some of them are cool, but when they start sounding like the Christian channel, I start waiting for the "send us your cash" punchline. You didn't challenge my faith, it's my own. I hang around Christians, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist and Hindu followers.

You want to challenge, I'm down with it, lets' go. :D

Don't the christian bands deserve to be paid? What's your punchline when you want your band to be paid?

Just throwing this out there, if the point of your God rock band is to "spread the word", getting paid would be the least of your concerns.

I think a Christian band has the right to dip the cauffers if that is their niche, however, I don't know any of them that are playing anywhere but church. They make the trip to church an event, a workout, gets the blood flowin' to the soul, And make it interesting for the Kids. When I was a kid it was the best part of going. Concerned parents want their kids involved. One of the best Drummers I'd ever heard was in church, and I don't think they got paid.Next to that, my Dad was going through a hard financial time (which most of us do sometime in our lives). The church helped out a lot, when there was nowhere else to turn. :)

Maybe not the least ... our gear, gasoline and recording cost money too.

But it's a valid point from my perspective.

We don't "charge" for our performances but we often get paid as gifts or donations.
We put every dime and probably a hundred dollars of our own money to the dollar contributed, towards our mission.

That said ... there is nothing wrong with collecting a " right " salary.
No matter what the occupation.

Touchy subject.

I am offended by those who call it a ministry, but it's business and profit all the way, and making money off the gospel is a violation of sacred trust.

Preachers, bands, no difference. Every ministry has a budget they operate under, and tithes and offerings go to take care of expenses, and income for full-time workers. But when "ministers" begin living higher than their supporters something is wrong. Same with bands who consider themselves a ministry.

I often wonder just how many bands who consider themselves a "ministry" actually live by faith and operate on offerings they receive, just like preaching/teaching ministries. Literature costs money to print, but ministries generally give it all away. Freely you have received, freely give. So, why the high cost of tickets to see big name Christian bands? No one pays to go to church. Why sell CDs? Ministries give them away. Why sell "merchandise," especially in light of 2 Peter 2:3 - And through covetousness shall they with feigned [fake] words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."

Business. It's isn't ministry. It's business. And that's fine, but it should not be called a ministry if it's a profit making business.

Sure, the local Christian mechanic 'ministers' to people. Same as the local Christian contractor, etc. But they derive an income selling product or services. It isn't the same as those in full-time gospel ministry.
