Here is the deal; you tell me if I am wrong! I worked with this band in the past and on occasions they have come up short with the money. They asked me to help them, out next week, and I asked for a pull list and how much they are going to pay, I’ve asked these questions twice, and no answer they said they would get back with me. I talk to them today and told them because of our history I needed to know how much they were paying and that I needed my money before I played a note. They didn’t like that, well the band leader and decided they would do without. Now mind you I am really cool with this, but was I wrong for wanting my money up front?. My thing is how do you hire someone and not tell them what the gig is paying.

Stick to your guns and you will do just fine. No, you are not wrong, because its what you want.

If you perform a gig knowing up front that you are getting paid and don't AND you do not demand your money then and there it is YOUR fault. I'm sorry but you should have insisted on getting paid the first time or you're NEVER GOING TO PERFORM WITH THEM AGAIN. Asking for money upfront this time around is a joke since you didn't rather insist on it the first time. You're not wrong asking for money up front, you WERE wrong not insisting on your cut the last time...

Woody, they are kidding,aren't they?
You are one smokin' player, I would love to have some one like you playing music with me.

Paying gig, Sound man , transportation, and any one covering what a band doesn't have,,, get paid first.

Who the hell goes to a job and doesn't expect some sort of a pay check?

Don't get me started.............Wrong , Woody , you are so righteous , YOU GET PAYED!!!! UPFRONT!

Cool parts of life you shared, thanks man.

I'm like this, if they promised to pay you the first time and they shorted you out, then you have every right to ask for your money up front this time. If they're looking for someone to play for free or "it's all about the music" then they can go dig up those kind of players. You're not wrong.

I tell people up front what they're getting. I always discuss money with my musicians. I want them to know exactly where things stand. Anybody who is not big enough to do that, is full of it.

When a band tried to stiff me once, I told the lead player that I would just hold onto his guitar until they paid me. They paid me. i'm a fairly big guy, & can be sorta intimidating.

Funny...they never called me back to play. I felt kinda hurt about that...

I am a easy going person, I get all the drama I could ever want at work(FF/EMT), so I try and stay cool about most things. Yes someone was right about me letting them get away with it before, that was before, but I don't need to keep hitting my head against the wall to know I'm not going to break threw. I've tried to help these guys because there old bass player was limited, and now the keys play bass lines. This was the only way I could see me working with them again. Thanks for all of your thoughts on the subject!

I would not trust them enough to play with them again ... ever.
