Been trying to post a new ad, and now they want a phone number to verify. Why are they doing this?

I think Craigs list has become a dangerous site. I would be careful in any dealings with them. JANSHT!

I suspect that I might have been flagged by one of the many flakes who contacted me there before, and was too afraid or lazy to really want to jam. I saw an ad from one of them the other day. Even tried using different titles an alternate email addresses. I contacted CL but still haven't heard back yet. I'm not afraid to say that there's a significant amount of losers on that site. Damn, I hate that place...but it IS a resource.

On a sidenote: I just contacted my supposed drummer of three weeks who I've never met who I've been sending files to. No response from him either.

P.S. There's NO way I will give CL or anybody from that place my number. I have through emails, but hey.

The reason being is there has been tons of bots posting trash, numerous stalkers (some very vicious ones), and also the craigslist killer (Philip Markoff). It isn't the best site to go to these days. So I would suggest trying to find another site.

Looks like I'm gonna have to take your advice. Weird thing is, I haven't gotten any responses from the ads I replied to either. I thought responding would be an alternative if they won't let me on without phone # verification. I wouldn't doubt if they started expecting people to start paying for ads altogether.

Aside from there being a lot of posts there, the experience I've had with CL has been the biggest musician hunting nightmare of mine in history. I've never ran into so many flakes in my life...and the ones I've met were either scammers or the most incompitent players I've ever been in a room with! I suspect that pretty much all of the regulars have already contacted me. I got swarmed at first, and now...nothing. Maybe my email has been blocked though?

Just emailed a drummer I sent files to who contacted me a month ago, and he doesen't even have the courtesy to tell me to move on. Of course, everytime I call and he answeres his cell while driving, he tells me he likes my music and then makes promises to send me files of him jamming to mine. I had one chick contact me and the first thing she starts going on about is how she wants to tour...bah blah blah....with her 80's Casio she uses for songwriting. Horseshit sentences! The CL regulars ruin it for the serious guys that look there.

Can anyone recommend any more sites? The only one I know that's free isn't a bulletin board and has hardly any members. It's called bandsbandsbands.com

I'm still using the BM search. At least 25% of those people respond. 35% of the people on BM know how to play too. I think my statistics are accurate. Unfortunately, not everyone is playing the same style of music.

I feel male PMS coming on. Really, it's just the fact that I want to play like an infant wants his mommas titty.

I would not really know of any good sites. Though I wish you the best of luck. For myself I would label myself "still practicing" vocalist. I did get one of my neighbors to come over today (shocked really, thought they came over to complain not want to listen to me) .. and they just thought I was awesome. Least I have a few positives going. Amidst all the lyrical, timing, vocal, screw-ups -lol-

I have a guy who lives above me that tries to sing, and it's not a good thing. His pitch is like rush hour traffic. Speeds up, slows down. I won't be knocking on his door soon.

Etu, I've gotten some spam already. Not a heap of it, but spam none-the-less.

Slacker, I think you're right. Somebody is mad cause their girlfriends want to meet me. :D

Three people I responded to forgot how to reply recently. That place is the short bus for Guitar Center rejects.

YEAH, I got that stupid CL PA enter code and all that just recently too. My current band is part CL, part BM. I got very lucky last year with finding a bass player and drummer this route. Now I'm finding being the band's lead vocalist and guitarist too demanding so I put an ad on CL for a lead vocalist. Here's the deal, and I apologize if a few of you out there already know this, but 1. Bandmix is useless unless you upgrade to premium paid so these bozos who drop in and don't even read the "about us/me" don't see my "ATTENTION!! To contact if interested, email etc. " and worse, if you click on their icon chances are their BM site has NO AUDIO, they've checked "all" so (my bass player and I get a laugh outta this) under "now seeking" a metal guitarist is searching for a viochellophonist accordionbassflute banjo frickin' piano vocalist general tenor soprano alto sax........................IDIOTS! CHECK WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!! They don't get the fact that no one can contact each other by clicking on the email icon, most don't have that feature c'os its costs ya. But you can leave your email in writing. Got everything else there except how the hell to find ya! So, I put 2 and 2 together: Advertise on CL what you need, want, whatever, include your BM URL and for the love of Pete, please upload some MP3 song files for a potential auditioner to hear direct from that CL URL in the posting. I mean hey, first they gotta like the style of songs you're writing before wasting anymore time going further? And another thing about BM, I've complained but they ain't fixed is this zip code specific and don't send me "you have new musicians in your area BS". Really? Imagine that! Uh, I suggested alerting me ONLY when my EXACT SEARCH CRITERIA was met. There is a feature in BM that sort of addresses this but then by using it you "eliminate all other musicians under your zip code". Aye aye yi!!!! Anyway, try the CL & BM COMBO, I think you'll find more musicians and eliminate the wannabe's if you include audio that kicks these jerks' butts ability to even try.

I think too many ex girlfriends kept listing their ex-boyfriend's cars for sale. This happened to my friend three times.

For Christians:

christianmusiciansearch.com

christianrocker.com

Thus far I haven't really hooked with anyone, but I live in a pretty sparsely populated area and lean towards music not really known around here.

CL is loaded with spammers and scammers now. The whole registration thing is an attempt to curtail that activity. I got scam attempts, big-time, after posting a for sale ad. Craziness.

Wow, thanks Drums! I wrote down all of those...I'm sure I'll need every one too.

I got contacted today, by what I suspect to be little kids or something. This guy told me him and his brother were reliable...etc. One a bassist, and one a singer and guitarist. They wanted to jam today at their "free" space. The guys wording seemed teenagerish. So I asked him some serious questions...haven't heard back. GOOD OL' CRAIGSLIST! Never fails to disappoint.

I have a dilemma, and need some of that "what I would do if I were you" advice. See, I just called my "drummer" who NEVER answerrs emails or returns phone messages. We talked a bit, and he told me that I needed to find a good bass player in order for us to jam. He said it had to be a good one because the style of playing isn't the easiest. I asked him if he had been practicing to the tracks I sent him. He says...a little bit...but he really does like it. Well, I'm glad he likes it and all, but why do I need to sit in a room with a bass player and jam without a drummer? Shouldn't the drummer and I be getting tight while I look? What kind of bull is this guy trying to sell me? Should I continue to keep looking for a full band still?
