No, it was never an investment. If you invest $10, you get nothing really but your name on his website. However, most of his backers invested $150 to get the actual guitar, so basically, these people are pre-buying the item. They're not just handing money over to this guy.
Kickstarter is a great place for people like us to get rolling, and yeah, it's begging, but it's no different than what the rich buggers I work with all day do, begging for money with companies that many of them risk not getting their money back or a return.
Yes, I believe in hard work, but I'm all about being smart too. I have an account with Kickstarter, I'm just waiting for the right thing to use it for.
