Pretty cool show last night.
Had our own little green room with plenty of drink.
Trower and his bandmates were nice guys - but his stage manager/tour manager was a little prick.

He bitched to the club crew about... Well, just about everything.
He drug the soundcheck out for 3 hours.
The upside to that was he pisses the club crew off, so we got a good soundcheck despite the time constraints.
At one point he was chewing us out because some of robins guitar pics were missing of the top of his amp. (No, I didn't take em)
I know that he was trying to get stuff right for his band, but a lot of the time he was just roaming around not really being productive. (Reading a book, etc)
Jimmy, you were right. It was packed in there. (Probably four or five hundred people)
Probably the best stage sound I've ever had.

We started on schedule but they still chopped us off by two songs.

I had a great time despite the little annoyances.

Zip that is awesome, Ive seen Trower everytime hes come to Memphis, and man to get to open for him would be killer. I think I could put up with a little prick to share that stage.

Cool beans Zip! Sounds like a gig to remember. Many (most) people in the business are jealous, petty and insecure pricks, I ignore them.

George, I probably would have told him that as well, but he never bitched at me directly.
Our poor leader figure got the brunt of it.
I just pretty much ignored him and didn't acknowledge him when he passed by.

And yeah... it was a gig to remember.
This gig was literally gift rapped and thrown in my lap.
I wasn't even looking for anything. The cover band has been on hiatus for months now.

I wasn't in any hurry to ruin it for the other guys, or to have it be ruined by a little hitler type.

I tell ya what... if I could have the big dressing room with catering and have everything set up and dialed in for me, and make about $1000 bucks for each show... I'd be a dad that was out on the road working for long stretches.

That show cleared $13,000 just from ticket sales.
Not sure what the clubs cut was, but I'm sure they made a lot of money on the bar.

Don't know how I missed this topic, but wow Zip! Robin Trower? The legendary Robin Trower? That is amazing news, bro! Many could only dream of getting the same bill with him.

Congrats to you. You must be proud of the feat...I would be!

The flip side for Robin Zip is the fact that in the early mid 70s he was a stadium act.

The last tim he was in Memphis it appeared that he and his band were driving around in a big black Suburban with and equipment trailer. I seem to recall that his show there grossed around 15,000, I know the owners of the club in Memphis and they rent out the room for anywhere from 500 a night to 1500 a night, they are mainly interested in getting bands like Robin that pack the house so they can seel lots of beer. I would imagine if you got to see his real financials his take for getting on the road wouldnt be as much as we might think, dont know for sure.

On the flip side the dude can absolutely wail on the guitar still! The only downer was that after listening and playing his music for years it seemed to me and my drummer that the tempos were dragging slightly.

Hell I would probably pay a 1000 dollars to share the stage with him, bitchy manager or not!
