This is a "sub-thread" of Irminsul's thread titled Pro Musicians - Are you getting paid? whom which I offer credit to in prompting this added topic:

When considering the amount that is being paid to each musician as they bar hop from job to job .... I can't help but think that the problem is in the placement of the ticket booth.... meaning .... it appears to be managed and controlled by the bar owner. So the system works as follows:
A bar owner sets up a ticket booth idea .... and sells tickets to what he refers to as bar customers (not fans) to earn money for the purpose of paying a band to play at his bar.... and ... becomes a little stingy after receiving the ticket income when it comes to actually paying the band a fair pay.
Now ... what if you took the ticket booth out of the bar... and change the direction the money flowed in. For example. Use an organization to sell the tickets to the people (who we now call fans ... not customers) instead of letting the bar owner do it. And ... instead of musicians asking the bar owner for a paycheque .... the musicians give one. Musicians count up their ticket income and tell the bar owner .... hey.... i'll give you $300 for 4 hours of stage time..... plus .... because we sold 135 tickets .... we can offer you that seating opportunity for you to rake in some beer sales.
In short ... I think you all get my point here ..... maybe the problem is in the ticket booth plan .... and the direction the money is flowing in.... who gets the income first .... and who has to depend on who for a fair share.
What are your thoughts?
