Been thinking about putting together a group ( maybe with full choir), to play what I call hippie religous tunes, in churches, e.g.

Are You Ready, Pacific Gas and Electric
Day by Day, Godspell
Spirit in the Sky, Norman Greenbaum
Put Your Hand in the Hand, Ocean
My Sweet Lord, George
Gimme Love, George

Any suggestions that fit this mold, style genre, motif?

Religion was probably one of the worst things the hippies embraced. They went from "being messed up on drugs" to "being messed up on the Lord." Is it any wonder the baby boomers got suckered en masse by TV preachers and "Moral Majority" politics in the 1980's ?

Hey Lynard, I watched your vids.

Instead of focusing on the "congregation" and singing about God,
Why don't you focus on that one individual, you know, the one that's at the end of the rope.

Why don't you write a song that's gonna stop that kid from offing himself.

That would be a good use of talent.

I'll buy spirituality all day long. I wont buy religion.

I'm not selling anything yet.

But I have put myself out there with my guitar playing, singing, and piano playing, on video.

No videos or audio from you

I honestly believe you have to learn from the masters to play in your own voice e.g. Beethoven from Mozart, or The Stones from Chuck Berry

Are You Ready

Didn't say you were selling anything. Don't get touchy.

You aint gettin a video nor audio from me on this site. We've been over that.

I also believe you have to learn from the masters, and develop your own "voice", unless, of course, you do covers for a living.

And....yes I am ready.....where's the party?

I like it. One song I would add, and I know I will get booooed, is "Take Me to The Pilot". By Sir Elton. It is becuase of him that I chose music as a career path so don't be mad at me. I really like the idea of the choir. In case you haven't come up with a name for your possee, I'd like to suggest "Rock of Ages".

Jesus is Just Alright, how could I have missed that one, I don't think I've heard God, Love, and Rock and Roll by Teagarden and Van Winkle till now but another great selection.

I really have learned alot of Sir Elton on the piano, but never really got any religous connotations from Take Me to the Pilot (never listened that close) but I'm going down to dig the sheet music out of my stacks of sheet music today.

Rock of Ages what agreat name and great song.

Thanks Jimmy and Ms Black57

My girlfriend suggests, Operator by the Manhatten Transfer.

I just suggested Take Me TO The Pilot because it is gospel in style. I don't really know that words but I recall a DJ commenting on the spirituality of the song. Anything by Manhattan Transfer raises my spirit
