Perhaps what she really means is that the gov is raking in far too much money to do without their loosing war on drugs. How much money could be saved by taxing drugs and removing the ineffective gargantuan government bureaucracy? If nothing else, billions would be saved just in wages spent on those ineffective departments. And money saved could go towards treating those who need or want help. Not all drugs should be legalized, but some are far less of a problem than alcohol.

legalize em all and educate. Then it's up to YOU what you decide to do. I've already had parents and I don't need a "Big Brother" to tell me what is right and wrong for me now that I'm an adult and ON MY OWN!

No illegal drugs = No drug cartels... not even the CIA

Big Pharma is taking over the illicit drug trade in Amerika anyway!

There were litterally millions of drug addicts in this country after the War Between the States. Wounds inflicted by 60 calibre bullets don't heal very well. (prosthetics were a big industry too)

That is how heroin came to be called 'horse,' there was a brand name called White Horse Heroin.

But guess what - no "drug crime." You needed it - you bought some dirt cheap at the drug store.

But then came big government and pig called Anslinger who wanted to make a name - so what if he destroyed people's lives who weren't bothering anyone. So now we have to sign our names to buy Sudafed.

I have to laugh when people call this a free country. Such folks certainly have read history or been to an airport recently... My step son got busted in the effort to "protect our children from the horror of drugs." Thanks assholes - you really helped him. luckily it was no big deal but still - nanny state do gooders scare me more than outright commies.

Hear hear! If we taught more personal responsibility in this country, then they wouldn't have to spend so much money babysitting the populace with these dumb ass laws.

Another problem is the amount of our tax money we spend housing criminals, often who've had minor drug offenses, but got slapped with long sentences because of the b.s. of the "war on drugs." In some states, there are some prisoners with ten year sentences who have had no more than an ounce of marijuana.

HELLO!!!! We're bitching about illegal aliens on welfare, but more money goes into housing prisoners in this country and public defense of them than welfare.

I've listened to dumb dumbs who I know go out and get sh*t faced drunk on the weekends, who will become a medical insurance sucking nightmare if they keep it up through middle age, paying off at least one DUI, but then will argue why marijuana shouldn't be legalized. Really?

We are a strange, strange society, for sure! Dichotomy rules!

You only need look at our dollar bill to see how confused we are - under the pyramid, on the back, are the words, "NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM" (new secular order), just one inch away from the words, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Our national anthem wonders whether we will still be there after the bombs burst, & is peppered with question marks, in a stolen melody, while we continually brag about being "the best country in the world." We keep arming ppl who invariably become our enemies, but we never learn from our mistakes, & pay the price with thousands of our soldiers' lives, again & again. We declared "war" on plants, & make ppl go to jail who have done no harm to anyone, not even themselves.

Yep. Americans sure are weird folk! I should know - I AM one!

Enslave yourself to a chemical or be enslaved to a government who will care for your every need so long as it decides you need them.

So right on. I always wondered who set the penalties for crime. In the past a murderer could spend less time in jail that someone busted for drug use. Big Mother watches over us.
