Didn't want to highjack the Reagan thread or for this video to get overlooked, I invite those who are interested enough in politics to listen at least the first two minutes of this speech from 1936 and see if what the president is addressing is relevant to today's issues.

Reagan a good president? maybe but compared to the man in the video is a nobody.

IMO Reagan was just a cheer leader for America nothing more.

Ironically, Reagan supported Roosevelt, before he set about destroying everything Roosevelt worked for.

Nav4c. Lets try to turn this into a music related thread. All I see when I read this sort of stuff is closet communism. You know , you start a small 4 piece band. You have a Few thousand dollar PA. A small light show. Transportation. A small rehearsal studio. Drive, ambition and talent. Extra equipment etc, etc,. You finally get it all together and your hard work has paid off, you got a gig for $500. Now here is the kicker, the rest of the band doesn't think you should make any more than them. It's your Gig and they don't think you should make anymore than them. What do you call that? Ask Rat what it is like to loose money because of equipment repairs.

All I hear is when you guys mow someones lawn for profit, you are afraid to collect. When you go to work, don't you expect a paycheck?
WELCOME to the world of CAPITALISM.
FDR kept this country in a depression 10 years longer than Europe. Tax and spend. Hoover destroyed the roaring 20s, when he raised corporate taxes out of sight. Every time I hear this I think of people that condone legalized theft

you guys better get your history right because it only dooms you to repeat it. From what I see you are very happy to just throw out BS rhetoric.

What would you do if you owned the PA?

Try the following:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard98.html

Excerpt from Reagan's acceptance speech.

"And, the time is now to redeem promises once made to the American people by another candidate, in another time and another place. He said, "For three long years I have been going up and down this country preaching that government--federal, state, and local--costs too much. I shall not stop that preaching. As an immediate program of action, we must abolish useless offices. We must eliminate unnecessary functions of government...we must consolidate subdivisions of government and, like the private citizen, give up luxuries which we can no longer afford."
'
"I propose to you, my friends, and through you that government of all kinds, big and little be made solvent and that the example be set by the president of the United State and his Cabinet.

So said Franklin Delano Roosevelt in his acceptance speech to the Democratic National Convention in July 1932."

...which you can find here: http://www.nationalcenter.org/ReaganConvention1980.html

These you can do your own research on:

"Ronald Reagan raised taxes 11 times, nearly tripled the federal budget deficit..."

"The conservative notion that cutting taxes creates jobs and increases revenue is ongoing from the Reagan era and during his first year in office when he cut taxes, the government went deeper into debt and despite raising taxes 10 more times he was never able to rein in the federal deficit"

"Reagan’s unholy alliance with the likes of Jerry Falwell has been a thorn in the side of women’s rights and religious freedom that continues to this day with Republicans making every attempt to restrict a woman’s right to choose in the 112th Congress."

"Reagan was responsible for funding, training, arming, and equipping the Islamist mujahidin in Afghanistan as a means of combatting the former Soviet Union."

Does that mean he helped creat the Taliban? Yeah....we need more presidents like Reagan, like we need another 9Eleven.

I can keep going. And I know the Amway cleanup crew will try to rebut all this......but yall can look it up and stop asking for back-ups instead of contributing YOUR facts on YOUR own time.

I said FACTUAL.

FDR kept us in a depression 10 years longer than Europe. He followed the tax and spend policy we follow today. Only WW2 put every one back to work.

Notice Reagan never said FDRs policies were Great. Notice you say Reagan raised taxes 11 times but you have no proof.

You are not aware that coming out of the 70s we had 15% unemployment 25% cc interest rates and mortgage rates @ 17%.
Raising taxes would have collapsed our economy.
The first thing Reagan did was lower corp tax rates, got people back to work, and EXPANDED the tax base. GEE. That is the same thing that Harding did before he died of a heart attack in office, and Coolidge even increased and led to the roaring twenty's. Wilson on the other hand raised taxes and almost sent us into a depression before Hoover could.

Bush Sr. started to stop the great new economy. NO CC interest deduction.
At least Reagan finished his fights. To this day I can not believe we went in ,destroyed Iraqs army, Protected Kuwait ,and then we had a president that was in love with the U.N. and bowed down political pressure.
Gee, didn't we go back and do the same thing again. What a waste.

Reagan used all his little fights to put the world on notice. The end result was the collapse of a major communist repressive regime that had enough nukes pointed at us to blow all our butts back to the future. Too many forget this.

My question for you is will you look at some of the good before you just search out what is bad. That 80s speech mentioned FDR, I bet Reagan wished he never mentioned him. Conjecture, yes. Don't miss all the other things he said. Or I guess someone like you just gets pissed off because he never talked about giving you free money.

Glen if I had a PA I’d use it knowing full well that there is a risk of break downs and normal wear and tear in using it, if the band pays a fee for the use of my PA then the repair or even the replacement of it is my responsibility, I’d have no right to force my band members to pay for a risk that I’ve assumed and got paid for.

Your point is if I understand you correctly… if somebody investing his money is in title to a return on his investment, of course he is there’s nothing wrong with profit, but if his business venture collapses he has to assume the loss and not pass it along to the tax payers, you’d agree with that I hope.

This is not what happens to corporations what I gripe about is the practice of dual financial systems practiced by corporations IE. capitalism when there are profits made and socialism when there are losses, (ask the government & tax payers to bail them out) more over people responsible for the losses not only are not kept accountable but they continue to receive exorbitant salaries and bonuses… where is the risk assumed by me with my PA?

There are countless businesses that fail and the government knows nothing about them why? Because they don’t have lobbyists with pockets full of cash buying politicians in Washington to represent them or bail them out while the big corporations the multinationals the too big to fail have created with their money and corruption a failsafe system for themselves at the expanse of you and me.

To keep the conversation simple I’m addressing only the financial aspect of a failed business venture, we can talk about the human cost some other time.

Glen I hope you realize that some of the taxes you and everybody pay ends up paying these people’s risks.

Exactly. GM failed and should have gone BYE BYE. WHY?

Poor management.

Excessive government regulation. Not in product, but unemployment insurance, workers compensation insurance, general taxes, and payroll taxation.

Excessive Union demands.

Note the last two have no check, are both socialistically motivated, with none of the risk associated with being an owner, [stockholder]. Both are motivated by greed and control by government and union.

Welcome to the world of the obvious. Did the government or the union contribute to GM. No they just became big money sucking leaches and when people realized what was at stake... WE THE TAX PAYERS were asked to bail out the whole mess. Too many jobs at stake.

Mike, I watched your friends videos. If he gives you a warm fuzzy feeling good. I don't like painting blue skies when it's raining. You really have to start thinking for yourself. R Reagan did everything completely opposite of FDR. FDR practiced control of the masses and extended the depression ten years longer than needed. That guy is as much an expert as my dog. have a nice day

:)

Glen

Spoken like a true Austrian.

btw - I used to write for LRC. After 70 columns I found myself getting repitive and gave it a rest. Been called a Nazi, a Commie and all points in between. But I'm just a humble, freedom loving libertarian with small 'l.' I didn't always agree with Mr. Rockwell but he backed me when I was playing war overseas and I never forgot.
