I am soo freakin' anal that I could never just "jam" Everything has to be meticulously coordinated or I just mentally couldn't do it! I would pick about 6 songs for prospective band mates to learn and then when everybody's comfortable with the way they've interpeted the tunes, I would set up a rehearsal or "jam"... To just have peeps over with no set structure ain't happening in my little obsessive world!

wow ... I jam a lot .. with beginners not!! But with good players .. you bet. Total improve no set chord pattern ... get out there and fly by the seat of our pants stuff and it can be a lot of funny and educational ... pushes you in to places that you have never been or you wouldn't think would fit .. Learning 6 songs is .. well something I do every week ... more like work than fun.

You must have a goal to be even modestly successful in a band or any business venture. The days of just getting together to jam are long gone, and your profile is a testament to that fact. You're 53, with no music posted on your profile, you refuse to pay for membership but you're willing to scam the system by posting your email address. You may even be a great player but no one will ever know, because your attitude is so poor.
What do you know about my attitude other than I wont pay for this sh8t. I jam instead... I jam at the musicians union at the union building or other establishments set up for musicians by musicians to meet personally FOR FREE...

Gee I don't know how you guys roll in other parts of the country but we like our jams in LA. I jammed just last week with some local players and it was a kick. We just explored our boundaries a bit with no strings attached (pun). It's a great way to get to know other players in your area.

Here is a place you can jam any Monday with some top session players. Just bring your axe and your "A" game down to the Spud:

Jam on bro, don’t let distracters deter you from getting what you like out of playing music, don’t let your age stop from doing what you love, remind people who use your age to whip you that they haven’t found the secret to stop aging.

 No ....Seriously....I'm not in any way saying that it's a good thing... I just can't have peeps over to just "jam"! My time is sooo limited that when I play with others, it's considered a business venture... It's so I can get something together as quickly as possible and start booking gigs... I remember the days of just jamming when I had all the time in the world.... I DON'T...and I just can't bring myself to waste precious time just jamming! I'm like a shrew.... I'm a very high strung, nervous entity! Say what you will but for some reason, it works for me! I'm always in one project or another and believe you me, there's no "jammin" going on!

I turned an audition into a jam recently. It was obvious we didn't click goals wise but all were good players and there we were...So I put on my blues hat and off we went.

And no, I don't know how to play "Rock and Roll Hochie Coo." (A lie actually - for grins I figured it out the other night - but that is most certainly not what I do!)

Jamming is great with the right folks - but too often you find yourself standing around wondering who knows what song, waiting for someone to take the lead.

The other side of the coin is that rare occasion when I get to jam with Chris Sherlock - my all time favorite drummer. I can take it anywhere and he'll be there waiting for me with a big dumb smile on his face...

When I saw a VH1 Special on the "making of" U2's Joshua Tree and some alluding to The Unforgettable Fire, I was STUNNED to learn that many of their songs came together from strapping on instruments and turning it all over to inspiration to create something out of nothing. GOOD FRICKIN' GRIEF!! Well, IRONICALLY, THE EDGE waited for the Drummer and the Bassist, both I personally think are a fierce and dynamic duo for that genre, to pound out a rhythm / hear Adams huge Fender bass lines before Edge worked his Stratocaster & percussive delay trademark sound on top. They ALWAYS rolled tape of some kind. Anything that morphed from a 'JAM" to a 'STUCTURED" melodic output was handed over to BONO to write lyrics and a melody around. They claim its been the their writing style from day one in Dublin Ireland, with perhaps a few exceptions PER album where EDGE had a drum machine and wrote a complete song minus bass and vocals. THIS IS A VERY RARE THING INDEED. I HATE JAMMING. I WRITE USING A BOSS DR 670, WITH BASIC DRUMS AND BASS PARTS WRITTEN WHICH THEN INSPIRE ME TO COME UP WITH THE GUITAR AND VOCALS. The band I'm in are RARE too c'os they love having a choice to play it just the way it is or freedom to add their additional creative flare "humanize" it. But plain old jamming ala 70s toke a spliff and Colt 45 and drive the neighbors to Counseling...................uh, NO. If you do go with the JAM, make sure the neighbors are well spliffed and beer -a-tized before hand. LOL
