Maybe the funniest part of the whole thing was the guy said he's bringing his wife to sing for us without asking if he could bring his wife, or asking if we needed a lead singer. I know of several good musicians in Kansas City who cannot play in a band without their wives being involved. I'm not aware of this particular drummer but it sounds like a ball and chain situation to me. All we need is a drummer. Everything else is covered VERY well. Bring all the women you want, they can watch and listen to us. I have no problem with that.

Giving somebody a "shot" usually requires the need for giving somebody a shot. We don't NEED any other singer. We've got two already.

Ah, I didn't know you had two singers already. I suppose if you just wanted get dude off your back, you could tell him to give you a recording of her vocals.

I don't like anyone coming to a rehearsal until the band is tight and there's a full setlist. That way, you can see what kind of reaction you get. But nothing irritates me more than people showing up to a band practice when there's tons of things to work out and discuss. Things just don't get done that much.

That's true. I wouldn't want someone coming to an audition without first asking or being asked. But I thought you were judging the girl because she was trained in opera not because the drummer ass-u-me (d) that you needed a singer.

The dude WANTED her to sing opera with us. Like I said, some people must be smoking some weird stuff these days...

What kind of swinger's band is this anyways?

Swinger's band? Maybe that's what most people envision a band to be. Everybody getting high, bring wives and or girlfriends. Everybody sings whatever, everybody plays whatever instruments they want. Show up whenever you want. Plenty of beer for everybody. Sounds like my kind of happening band.

A band should be fun.

I have no patience with serious musicians.

But for a band to be fun, we all must be able to enjoy ourselves.

So I have no patience with frivolous or inconsiderate musicians.

Discipline is not the enemy of fun.

I like sincere musicians. Disciplined musicians. People who play music, not work it. But people who play it with sincere dedication.

People who show up, on time, ready to play.

People who don't show up with an attitude, a joint or a six pack.

People whose significant others are not constantly trying to undermine their relationship with the other people in the band.

The story Bob tells annoys me not so much because she's a trained singer (I really wish more singers would bother to get some training, really), but because of the tacit assumption that he makes that:

    * Bob's band needs a better singer than the one(s) they have.
    * This drummer is guaranteed a place in Bob's Band

My musician's want ad read simply pro drummer needed for blues/rock power trio. Didn't say anything about vocals. I'm not bothered at all by dumbass responses to any ads I have run in the past. The weird ones are humorous. This one was the MOST humorous I have ever received. I couldn't stop laughing for HOURS. It STILL is funny to me. The guy sounded like he was doing serious drugs on the phone. He kept asking what I was laughing at. Maybe some time in the future we could use another singer, not likely, but possible. The most important feature of our band is the HOT lead guitarist. Vocals are secondary. Hopefully soon y'all will find out what I'm talking about, which is a phenom very young guitarist who's developing into something amazing. This has been a big fresh blast of air. Everything I've been doing the last five years or so is sounding stale to me. Sure we can get gigs but it's SOS. This youngster is breathing FIRE into the old covers and really digs my originals and WANTS to record them. Just need a drummer who can keep up with us. Not going to be easy to find apparently, but you can't blame us for trying.

I could not agree more whole heartily.
Truth be know it is someone's lack of discipline that usually screws up the fun.
