I had a 4 string Ibenez soundgear SR800 w/a/pu's. Man that baby was baddass! Maybe the best bass I've ever owned. I like it much more than the Samick 5 string I have now, and it's double the price o the Ibenez..

Really!? If you still have it in about two months or so then I want it. I would take off your hands now if I could! All I'm doing right now is saving for the things I want. :x

I know, cheap huh... Just lemme know when your ready, but I will have to sell it when I get the chance though bro... pretty hard up right now.

Bass players control pelvises and emotion and most listeners don't even know it. Bass controls what feels hokey or funky. Bass rules. It is my favorite instrument, my first instrument, the instrument I feel most competent on. I LOVE playing bass.

Peavey are servicable. Crate tends to hiss a bit. Fenders are often 'brittle' sounding. SWR and Gallien-Krueger have been the most reliable, best sounding rigs for me with any one of my instruments over the years.

Hartke, OTOH, I would avoid like the plague. I've know a lot of ex-Hartke users over the years. None of them gave it up because of problems with tone. They sound great...

...when they're working.

Every one of them I knew had horror stories about the amps or speakers dying at some critical time. Most of the local music stores I've been in stopped carrying Hartke because they got tired of the returns on the things.

Maybe quality is better these days than it was ten years ago when I was last shopping for a rig, but color me skeptical.

Damn. Well, how were the Hartke hy-drive speakers? Not the usual aluminum ones, the ones combining aluminum & paper cones?

The problems with Hartke equipment weren't limited to the known problem with aluminum cones*. There were a lot of cold solder joints in both the amps and cabinets. Like I mentioned, it's been ten years since I was seriously shopping for equipment (another reason I like Gallien-Krueger and SWR), but it was pretty consistent. I can't speak to any specific piece of Hartke equipment made recently, but I'd be a little...wary.

As with any expensive piece of equipment, it might be a good idea to do a little homework.

* Aluminum cones are very sensitive to temperature fluctuations. I knew one guy who had transported his Hartke aluminum cone cabinets in fairly cold weather, his "road crew" took the cabinets in, plugged them in and turned the amps on before allowing the cones to warm up. The cones cracked and the coils "jammed", for lack of a better description. This is not, BTW, unique to Hartke.

I hear ya, man. If you happen to find a buyer, then congrats. This economy has me feeling a stiff pinch like a dirty old lady at my backside. I'm still not used to it.

Those Ampeg SVT's seem to be like the Marshall of bass amps. I guess I was weary of that company, because any time a corporation seems to grow exceptionally fast, then their product suffers. Maybe I'm a little scarred up at some of Gibson's recent attempts?

All my hartke gear's been through hell, and seems stronger from it. It's all I feel comfortable using, really.

Just my bass amp spends all summer being lugged around a summer camp and used for a myriad different applications beyond playing bass, and all winter in a basement that usually hovers at 55 on a warm day, and never bats an eye.

The only problem I ever had was the rubber feet it sat on when kicked back got knocked off. I called hartke and they sent me new ones, no charge whatsoever, not shipping, nothing.

Dizzizz, haven't you found a band yet? Bass players are being sought out like dinosaur bones.

Nope. Lack of transportation's holding me back.

I play with a couple guys once or twice a week, but it's not serious, and not the type of music I'd prefer to be playing.

I was playing bass today. Made up some funky, yet creepy bass lines. I like to throw in a little bend, or a bass chord to give it that melting effect.

I can tell that when I decide to look for a band playing bass that I'm going to get a little picky. I want to do something different. So, does anybody want to start a Sci-Fi jam band that sings about thunderbirds and cyborgs? Could be fun! 8)

If I could clone another version of me, then I could start two bands. Trying to figure that out still.

If you're ever out this way, then hit me up. We'll plug in and knock around.
