Hey guys,

We're looking for some feedback on what you think would be the BEST organization for all the cities/town in the UK. We're looking for between 30-60 main areas to divide the country up into. We feel this would help people browse much easier on the site and find relevant musicians and bands close to them.

Please let us know what your thoughts/ideas are!!

The major cities as far as music scenes are concerned are (not necessarily in this order, but pretty much South to North)
London
Bristol
Cardiff
Birmingham
Manchester
Leeds
Newcastle (on Tyne)
Glasgow
Edinburgh
Belfast.

For a division into a more high resolution basis, you could try:-
Cornwall
South Devon
North Devon
Southampton area
Brighton Area
Kent
Thames Estuary/Southend
London
Bristol & Bath
South Wales/Cardiff
South West Wales/Swansea
Gloucester,Hereford and Worcester
Oxford & Stratford
Cambridge and Suffolk
Norfolk
Notts-Leics- Derby Triangle
Stoke on Trent
Cheshire
North Wales
Merseyside & East Lancs
Greater Manchester
Leeds / Bradford
South Yorkshire
North Yorkshire
Lake District/ Cumbria
The North East, Tyneside & Wearside
East Scotland
West Scotland
Scottish Highlands
Northern Ireland
I've tried to base this on the easy travel areas around the centres of population.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
Dave

Seems like Darowyn has totally ignored the whole South East of Britain apart from London.

Kent and has an incredibly vibrant music scene, although it tends to be more covers based. Saying that, I'm from Kent and an ex member of The Clash drinks in my local as well as several session players.

For original stuff, Brighton and Hove without doubt is easily as important as Belfast, Bristol Edinburgh and Glasgow for original music (and probably more) and definately more important than places like Cardiff. It is also by far the largest city in the whole of the South of England except London, and hugely driven by it's underground scenes. Bad omission.

Sorry Max,
How could I forget Brighton?
A significant portion of my former students are involved in the music scene there, so I've no excuse at all!
Cheers

Northern Ireland is fairly easy to list as it consists of only 6 counties and about the same in major cities

Please add Norwich in Norfolk - it's about the only hub of culture in the whole county! Thanks :D
