To what end? It seems to me that this discussion puts the cart before the horse. It has been customary to go on the road to promote an album or CD to generate a buzz for a band or a singer with material already recorded and ready to be marketed with the backing of a promoter, record company, without any back up your already recorded music will not suffice to keep you afloat unless you have some exceptional appealing material.

For an unknown band/artist is financially difficult to tour on their own and considering the competition out there and the venues available these days for unknown and unsigned musicians the chances of keep touring indefinitely and be financially solvent are remote, almost null.

Such is the nature of the business, so difficult to make a living so easy to fail, unfortunately failure does not impact only the band but families as well, I’m almost sure some of you can relate to that.

Sorry for the pessimism it comes from experience, I’d love to have the chance to tour again if it didn’t affect my financial status achieved at great sacrifice over the years.

For those willing to try hats off to you and best wishes its difficult but not impossible.

Like everything else in music it comes down to the quality of the material. If you can write songs that people want and are willing to pay to hear you can pretty much do what you want. But the songs have to WOW them. My friends Downtown Brown www.dtbmusic.com went from a local band like us to being a regional act. They do mini tours of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and here. They all still have day jobs and arrange paid and unpaid time off to do it. But they are good enough to do it. Us, we just like writing and recording and doing occasional shows locally.

If you have a popular song, I don't believe you have to
run around the Country playing it for a few hundred here or a
thousand there. This day you can play Live to anyone's phone.
Play Live on their computer. Simulcast any performance at any time.
They come to you by just signing on. I think all that touring is
becoming old school. It has its place but you can play for 100 and
reach 10,000. Product placement combined with Product quality
equals SALES.

I'd hate it if musicians were forced to go on stage dressed like NASCAR drivers or something.

Klug, I agree with you and feel that streaming content will probably be the way we consume all entertainment in the future, but still you'll be watching a performance in front of an audience somewhere. Concerts will become fewer and further between and only those with money will be able to attend them. The rest of us will order it for $9.95.

Faygo is pretty fond of them too.

The Juggalos are a passionate, loyal following.

Stage presence is important. Look at KISS. The whole mystery of what they looked like helped a lot too. They're an average rock band without the whole show.

Don't get me started on GWAR. They wouldn't even be around had it not been for those costumes.

You gotta sell it right.

Crip's a good man. I'm in exactly the same situation. Certain things in life are more important...

Frank Zappa once said something about Americans. They don't like music. But, they love to be entertained! They don't like the hamburger you're selling unless you add a garnish, even though it is the same dogmeat as before.

1891 ?

If you knew in your bones that it was your destiny, or your life meaning (life path) then it wouldn't really be a question.
You'd either have to do it, or endure a semi-miserable life, and a death preceded with hollow regret.

I'm trying to figure it out for sure.

I'm fighting between doing the 'right thing', doing the responsible things and giving in totally to what I think my puspose is.
If I could only get a thunderous answer in my head or truly know, with no doubt, that my path in this life is music... I'd be gone.

If it was gods will, or the will of the universe if you want to call it that, to not go would be going against your very purpose.

I also like playing around with computer programming, so that's my responsible plan for now.

Don't ever mention those fake-ass mental midgets who go by I.C.P. here again.

They should be deported, all of their recording should be scrubbed from existence, and all those who posses a recording of them should be shipped off to france.
