Doesn't the Christ tell us its better to give to the poor than hoard wealth? I recall a verse about it being easier for a camel to pass thru the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the Lord's Kingdom.

Greed is no virtue and a distortion of America's promise. We were promised the freedom to pursuit happiness, not a Lexus and a diamond studded cell phone case.

Discard your envy of the rich and stop allowing them to pervert our laws of fairness and equality in the hopes you too will someday join them above the serfs and scoundrels.

That is a "lure" to keep you docile while 2% of the nation controls 50% of the wealth and ALL of the government.

Yeah....what he said.

Today, many are successful businessmen and politicians themselves. But US history will always document the "Love Generation". Who will care about the "Wii - xBox" generation in 50 years?????

Well, the 'Boomers are good at self-congratulatory dick-sucking, for sure.

But, what made the change possible was their numbers. Later generations are STILL cleaning up their mess. But, lack the numbers to really change anything dramatically.

I believe that my generation -- the post-war baby boomer -- has ruined things by focusing on this ultra-cool, detached, eternally-young mindset. They've kind of destroyed emotion. The whole theme of Tromeo & Juliet was that the older generation is so powerful that it stifles the younger generation. It has discouraged the younger generation from having any kind of real relationships, or emotional contact. ~ Lloyd Kaufman

Well Mike....It was estimated that there were 8,000,000 hippies during it's peak.

Your numbers seemed a little skewed. Are you trying to say 8 million people had 4 kids each?

Before this conversation goes to the shitter (it probably already has), keep in mind the the teen numbers I quoted, start long after the 8 mill hippies were having their babies.

Hippies ? LOL

The smart ones found a way to make a good living inside the society they protested.

The dumb ones died, or are laid up in hospitals and nursing homes on medicaid. Still letting others foot the bill for them.

Many of my older friends participated in said "movement".
Most of them still hold to some of their "ideals" but are not against building and IRA.

Ah well I was a punk rocker. I’m glad piercings and tattoos weren’t as popular back then, I’d be a visual mess right now. :D

A peasant would tell you that his life sucks so the rich must be brought down as well.

A free citizen will see that improving the life of everyone will help us all. Rich and poor. AKA- rising tide lifts all boats.

I do not begrudge the rich thier money and success. Quite the opposite. I work to get there too. I have often stolen a quote I do not remember the originator of: "A poor man never gave me a job". I can not improve the life of anyone if I am working to destroy the success of others. I can improve the lives of others if I work to improve my own.

Thus self interest, profit and success are not evil.

I guess you never heard the Golden Rule, "Whoever has the gold makes the rules." And they've re-written the rules in their favor.

I have no interest in "bringing down" anybody. But, wealth is power. And it is often abused at the expense of those with too little of it.

But Mike- "everybody" will never do better. Some have hussle, some don't. Some truly are bums. Some actually want wealth. Some of us are not materialists but still wish to eat every day and have good guitars.

You've played in bands thus I think we may assume you've met your share of stumblebums. Should they be entitled to the same portion as those of us who actually pull our weight?

The problem with our culture is that it has become so difficult to be poor UNLESS you are willing to become a ward of the state which all too many embrace freely. (This is actually why I sadly forsee chaos in our society)

When I did the starving artist routine there was plenty of cheap housing (before the FEDGOV got involved) and low end jobs that didn't need drug tests and a fifty page printout of your life story. I'd be surprised if a young kid could pull off all the antics I did back then. "Helpful" govt has poisoned the well.

I've thought long and hard on how to downsize my already rather simple life style - but the drop from where I am now to ANYWHERE else is a long one.

cheers
Talbot
