This set of tirades reminds me of what happens when everyone wants more equal than equal rights for any one set of people.

Flag burning is protected. Does not mean I have to like it, or the people doing it. But I would protect thier right to do it.

Marriage is not a constitutional right for anyone. Period. It is a states rights issue at the least and a religious ceremony with a legal contract attached at most.

Any kind of sexual and overt public display of affection in the military while on active duty in uniform is not allowed. Straight, married uniformed couples can not disclose relationships or sexual orientation in such a way that would draw attention to themselves. Why should gay people? I have lived my entire life straight without needing external validation, a parade or special rights to allow me to be straight. My gay brother has done the same. He hates gay activists crap more than I do.

My grandfather serveed in the Navy in WWII, Two uncles in Vietnam, one uncle in desert storm and countless cousins in active duty right now. They all share one common bond that has nothing to do with how they use thier genitalia or thier thoughts on the flag. They all serve the United States and protect the Constitution.

While there are strict guidlines on how government employees, civil servants and military personell handle the flag, there are no laws stating how private citizens MUST handle the flag. I despise the treatment I see protesters give the flag but that is just that. A flag.

The true symbol of American freedom, excellence and dominance is in the day to day freedom of each individual citizen to act, think and feel as they will. To succeed or fail by the choices they make. When I see that threatened by people inside and outside the country is when I move to action. Protecting the constitution is about protecting each of us. Our individual rights and the rights of each state to act freely without the burden of an over reaching federal governemnt or the interference of a foreign power on sovreign soil. (See Mexico being allowed to speak on behalf of the government suing Arizona)

So when we squabble over how we use the rights we are blessed with by god in the greatest country on earth, we lose the big picture. We need to unify to keep those rights... lest we lose even more.

Unfortunately, marriage is a national issue, BB. You canot have it legal in one state & not the next. How would we ever handle insurance claims, cpl's retirement benefits, SSI, etc, if we leave this issue to the individual states? It is clear that we cannot. We can make it illegal for some ppl to GET married in any state, but, once they become married in another, they must be recognized as being married by the state. ANY state. They must have equal rights, once they become married, as any other married cpl. You cannot force a cpl to live in a state for economic reasons, or benefit reasons, or entitlement reasons. That would not be the American way, as I see it.

This issue definitely falls in the realm of the federal gov't. I find it to ne a horrible case of injustice when some ppl HAVE been married in one state or another, legally, yet cannot be accepted in another state, or even their OWN, when resolutions are repealed by that state. What a ridiculous way to be! "Yes, you have the right to be like everyone else...oh, wait! No! Sorry. We changed our minds!"

I haven't checked, but HAVE those ppl who were legally married in CA lose their marrital status, later, after Prop 8?

The people who got their certificates before prop 8 got what they got, certificates not legally validated. The certificates hold no merit. Personally, I think Gavin Newsom should be kicked out of office. That guy ripped a lot of people off.

You know your probably right. We'd make a kick ass band (Of course I would write) and we would throttle each other until we bled pints, but it might be fun......in a sick sort of way!

Sounds like an interesting performance art piece. The band shows up and, as they're about to start playing, begin fighting with each other. Everything escalates into a bloody mess.

Oh, and Mike, I actually think your pretty right on. But dude don't friggin scare me with the clown makeup thing. That's just damn creepy. I mean holy carps that kind of sh*t can get you killed in some towns. I went to birthday party for a one year old in Dallas, drunk, and god knows what 6 adult intoxicated people are doing going to a one year old's B-day I don't know, hell it was a strange obligation. But when we finally composed ourselves enough to ring the door bell and go in......oh my god...Tharpo the child molesting clown was at the door. I would of laughed but I was so creeped out that I watched the Dallas Cowboys and ate cheese dooodles in silence. No more clowns please!

Why is that about clowns? They're supposed to be funny, entertain kids, etc. But, they are universally creepy. I never met a kid that actually LIKED any, either.

Why WERE 6 intoxicated adults at a one year old's party?

Not that I'm calling the burning of a flag "art," but some ppl would. Me? I'm just a critic, though I'll admit that it does indeed "speak" to me when someone burns a flag.

No, speech means speech.
Press means press.
Etc...
There is no 'right to expression'.
I could punch someone in the face as part of my expression.
Wait... pursuit of happiness... would punching a face fall under that?

Look, the flag symbolizes a collective ideal of freedom and independance.
It has also taken on the property of symbolizing the blood spilled in defense of that freedom and independance.
It isn't a religion, but to be forbidden from flying it is not a good thing.
Burning it, whiping yout butt with it, and anything else that denegrates or show disrespect to what it has come to stand for... just isn't a good thing.
Can you do it? Yep.
Should you do it? Nope.

Is there any respect out there anymore besides respect for ones self?
