Whats kind of funny about this is, I went to see Rush live and now I have a hard time listening to the studio albums. Rush live is 100 times better IMO.

Oh yeah, Rush's chops are insane live! They are the prime example of professional musicians. You know you're getting more when you go to a live show. That's how it should be.

Hey Sir Jams, I checked out your midnight recording. that's just what I'm talking about. It appears that you just recorded it straight forward, down and dirty. mistakes...yeah might be some there... I'll leave that to you, but it's you in the simplest form. And it sounds pretty good, right? Now all you need to do is add an out of tune vocal over it and we can get back to debating autotune!

Yeah, that's it on my profile. I like the beginning and the ending solo areas, but most of the in-between are rough at best, and obviously out of time. I also had my mic volume up a little high and got a few rude clips from smacking the accoustic body too much Live and learn right?

But in the process of recording, I stumbled across a sound that I liked and plan to explore further in a re-recording of this tune, at 2:40 and on. I also learned that MP3's strip the lows and tonality out of the orginal recording. It sounds really full when in .wav format, but the .wav is about 40 mb...

Just jamming while the record button was on allowed me to forget the record button was on, so the pressure was off, so I could think more about the progression while I was playing it. So yeah - I have to do that more often just to get over the perfectionism wall I tend to build around myself.

I've seen Rush live - they are amazing Have you seen the RUSH documentary ? That was a great documentary! Worth a view if you haven't seen it.

Yeah, that's a great documentary! All about their humble beginnings to their current status. Man, those guys are survivors. Musical soldiers in a way.

I prefer to go back to wax cylinders or wire recorders, anyone for a cassette demo? We worked our way out of the cave only to head back thanks to Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft. His intentions were good but Sony took the ball and has never stopped running. Great way to store and share lots of music. Horrible way to hear music as it was recorded.

Man, when I was a kid I HATED Rush with a passion. In hindsight, Geddy's piercingly high vocals and all the 80's synth crap initially turned me off. But,2112 is one of my favorite albums now. Maybe Primus and Tatsuya Yoshida had something to do with it.

It is odd how I've reevaluated certain music as I got older. Billy Squier was another one. Hated him then. Like him now. Gawd, I hope I never turn into the kind of person I hated.
