I hesitate to say it here, cuz it seems a bit inappropriate, but it's been nearly 24 years since my dad died, & I still almost hate the guy. I'm quite sure he almost hated me up to the day he died. I'm kinda glad I wasn't there when he went, cuz it would have been pointless to try to make any amends, or to change any attitudes. You'd hafta know us to understand, I guess...
Some ppl just aren't supposed to live or work together.

J, and everyone who has lost a parent I am sorry for your loss. It is still a great loss regardless of how the relationship may have played out. I imagined seeing my parents singing in the choir.I just lost my mom this year as most of you might remember. I got to see my mom 2 weeks before her death. My husband's aunt had passed away which was why I was able to visit Mom in the nursing home, which was supposed to be temporary. I will always feel that Aunt Marilyn died when she did so that I could see mom. Life is an amazing thing, huh.
Phil, my dad feels the same way about his mom. He'll flat out say she was a just plain mean. Even though I'm adopted, I'm very close with my parents who adopted me. I lost my mom in 2007 and there isn't a day go by that I don't think about her or hear her voice. Things are starting to happen for me and one thing I hate is that I can't jump on the phone and call her to tell her. I can tell my dad, but still, I'm used to sharing more with my mom. I miss talking with her at Xmas and talking about what we were going to get the kids or asking her about an ingredient for her sweet potato pie.
You never get over it, but I can say, they're never too far away.
