I just got back from a jam session at a bar where I played bass all night with people I've never seen before in my life (except one). Probably 80% of the songs I never played before in my life. All the players were SLOSHED except me of course. The pinnacle of the evening was the version of Hotel California. I wish we had recorded it. I've never heard something like that before in my life. Not knowing the progression I groped around until the song was almost over. The drummer and I were laughing our heads off. The vocalists were harmonizing off key. The players were all playing the wrong notes. It was true atonal music. And people in the crowd were dancing and loving every minute of it. I just got home and I was laughing so hard my stomach hurts. I think a truck full of pigs crashing into a truck full of bowling balls would have been a better version of it. Seriously...

What counts is that your audience loved it. That song is a little creepy anyway. perfect for an atonal adventure.

I'd love to hear a group do it in altered tunings, Sonic Youth style.

The original annoyed me for decades. But, when the Eagles did their acoustic reunion set, with the bongos, it never sounded better!

What's with everyone trying to put up a link ?

The guy said it was a humorous version of Hotel California.

You know what you can do with your mp3, right?

MAKE YOUR OWN THREAD.

It wasn't played in purposely altered tunings, it was played by drunks (NOT ME) who were out of tune and me who was in tune but couldn't find the right notes because the drunks were out of tune AND the vocalists trying to sing along with out of tune instruments and the drummer and bass player (ME) laughing their butts off. And ALL the hard drinking crowd loving it all. The most bizarre thing I've ever been a part of...I wish like hell somebody had recorded it, you'll NEVER hear a more screwed up song being played in public, EVER.

My last band contemplated releasing a "bloopers" album, of just live f**k.

Kind of reminds me of the two titles of NOFX's live albums:
I Heard they Suck Live
and
They've actually gotten worse Live

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ear splitting atonal cacaphony. About the best thing I can say about the gig. Everybody was drunk so who cares...
