This band (Atomic Tom) had all their equipment stolen, and they ended up being filmed LIVE on a NYC Subway, performing one of their songs, with the WHOLE BAND, using their iPhones as instruments!

Awesome stuff!!!

Nice little publicity stunt.

Are we supposed to somehow believe they were booked to use their instruments on the train ??

You got it right the first time brother! :-)

It was a GREAT publicity stunt! Also gets the "sympathy vote" because they had their gear stolen! I have seen FAMOUS artists, use, for example, the Flute app, on the iPhone, and others, and use them in MAJOR CONCERTS and it got attention, of course!

But this is the first time I have seen a WHOLE BAND use nothing but iPhones to play, and... doing it on the subway, was that much more effective and creative!

That is EXACTLY how viral videos get moving!

Conductor: "Excuse me, gentlemen. I'll need to see your tickets...No tickets? Then SHUT UP or get the @#!& off the train!!"

Actually that was pretty neat.

LMAO!!!

They accomplished their task though! We're talking about them, know their band name, etc... The song sounded pretty good. Makes me want to check out the studio version now! ;-)

Effects me just the opposite. I detest cheese dic tricks and dishonesty.
Would not go to one of their shows if the tickets and the ride was free.

Was not necessarily implying that they were dishonest.
Was a general statement.

However the wording of the post would seem imply that they had to use their phones due to stolen equipment ??

This could be just my perception.

No, it just mentioned that their equipment was stolen, so they came up with the idea to use their iPhones, and perform (practice, whatever) on the subway.

Marketing Genius! :-)

And, it sounded good... especially as they got into it, later on, with harmonies, etc...

To me, it was the epitome of making the best out of a HORRIBLE situation! Imagine, if your band's entire equipment had been stolen! I personally know at least TWO other bands, where this actually happened... where the whole truck of equipment was GONE! I think it was brilliant, to turn it around, and have a horrible circumstance, work in their favor instead! Shows a good attitude, and it shows DEDICATION, that they all stayed the course, and turned this into something that could work in their favor, instead of moaning and whining and cursing life!

Atomic Tom Plays Subway Concert Using Only iPhones
by Megan Vick, N.Y.
October 15, 2010

Technology is a wonderful thing. Universal Republic's latest rock project Atomic Tom would probably agree with that sentiment after the band's instruments were stolen recently. In a stroke of genius, Atomic Tom members improvised with their iPhones.

The commuters on the NYC B line train were treated to an Atomic Tom concert when the fellas busted out their iPhone apps -- piano, guitars and drums all plugged into a speaker to perform their song "Take Me Out." The band showcased some really impressive finger tapping and didn't hold back any energy.

Prediction: This video will inspire thousands of iPhone bands to spawn. Apple honcho Steve Jobs will be hosting the National iPhone Jam competition before the end of next year, and we'll have Atomic Tom to thank for that. Job well done, gentlemen
