My hubs told me about a couple of well known musicians who would hold jam sessions at their homes and be secretly recording the sessions, only to hear their stuff being played on the next album. Since it was only a jam session, nothing was recorded or written down. I wouldn't say this is the case with Sly because I don't know, but it was a well known thing. I've been the studio and have watched producers pull in musicians to play "parts" for them and once the "song" comes together, the producer would take sole credit for it when in reality, those musicians actually wrote it, all the producer did was say "yeah, I like that, play that!" Send the guitar player in there and play something on top of that. Some of them didn't even get paid for their work.

Prince was known for doing that to. He would even take a band members song and put his own name on it. Like the song kiss was Mark Browns song. He was recording it for the band Maserati. Prince was walking by. He like what he was hearing told mark he wanted to add something to it. to weeks later mark hears it on the radio. Later prince told him he would give him 50 thou but mark never got the money.

I completely 100% believe that.
I know someone else that fell prey to that as well..
Controversy was Andre Cymone's song which was why he quit playing bass for Prince and it was kind of a straw that broke the camel's back for him. So Prince has been known to do that a few times. I know a lot about Prince because the people I know either went to school with him or have played with him. Some stories I'd hear (and these were from legit folks I knew were telling the truth), it would leave me shaking my head. Being in Hollywood in the 80s, it can jade you pretty quick. It's sad but one reason I get so depressed is most of the people I know who have made it, it usually involved using and taking advantage of people a great deal.
That's why when musicians tell me when they make it they're gonna help me, I tell them to worry about themselves because there's no sense in making promises they can't keep. I can't take care of myself.

I can't tell you how many garage bands I've seen on late night and I want to know who are these people's booking agents or are they simply pulling names out of a hat. Meanwhile, I've been submitting my music to agents and such and I don't get a peep. I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but damn, if they can get get played so can I. WTF?

Well, I just got done listening to the tunes you have up on the site, and I must say.... I think you and your hubby rock! Damn, If I didn't live in Michigan I might even audition for that open bass player spot. Kind of weird how I end up posting on here.... It's almost always on my laptop while we are setting up for a gig, if the place has wi-fi.
