Gonna do a full blown cover version, but did a little experimenting on Saturday with the fuzz tone, and the "beep-beep-beep" guitar effect

That tone is right on Dajax. You must be busy I haven't seen you around these parts in a while!

Welcome home, Dajax!

Sounding good, as always!

...bit of an odd ending, though!

Well thanks for the positive feedback on the tone boys. Thats a Gretsch with single coils going through a Dunlop Fuzz Face into my Fender Champ. The trick is to make sure the battery in the Fuzz Face is starting to run down. You really get that sputtering sound with the top end sizzle just before you have to replace the battery

The guy with a pocket full of almost dead batteries eh. LOL

Wonder if you could use a rechargeable and time how much charge it takes to replicated the sound?

well some of the fancier pedal boards I've read up on have one of the 9 volt feeds to the pedals with an adjustable voltage control for just this sort of thing (although the fuzz face doesn't have an input for power, I guess other more modern fuzzes do). I'm happy enough with the sound of that main guitar that I'll use that same track on the finished version

My Voodoo Pedal Power has that function Dajax. I was wondering what that was for!

Yeah J, I find the voltage thing makes such a difference in the sound of my Fuzz Face that I wish there was a third knob that attenuated the amount of juice from the battery that gets through to the circuit. When the battery is new the pedal is much smoother sounding, and has a lot more sustain...closer to the sound I associate with a Big Muff pedal. I think that some of the newer boutique fuzz boxes do have such a control on them (the Zvex fuzz factory comes to mind) You know another tune from the same year as Spirit In The Sky that has a very similar fuzz tone is the Frigid Pink version of House Of The Rising Sun, maybe I'll try that one too!
