How did he get to be so popular? Teens and tweens pert near riot when he interacts with them.

Perhaps someone with a lot of money saw an opportunity to promote him so they could get a lot more money? The general populace is rather like a bunch of Lemmings. If it is on the news, or some TV show they appear to buy into it.

I imagine that almost every moderate sized town in America has someone just as good, but not promoted. There may even be some on Bandmix.
