Come on Craig...this can't be called bias for political reasons. You're reaching a bit, there.
Of course it's political. Many of the articles didn't even mention, that Dr. Martin Luther King's niece spoke at the event, and claimed her father would have supported it's goals, of restoring honor, and returning to God as a nation. They didn't mention HER BEING A GUEST SPEAKER, while they QUESTIONED whether Beck was trying to HIJACK King's legacy. Funny... they didn't plan any major events for that day, but once someone else does?
Headlines "FRAME" the story. The headlines were mostly negative, and almost none of them reported accurately, what a turn out there was, until you got into the article.
Deceptive pollsters (meaning biased ones) do the same thing. They FRAME the question in a way, to lead the reader to a predetermined conclusion.
For example: The question... "Do you support protecting an unborn child, after 6 months of pregnancy has been reached?" does not get the same results as... "Do you support protecting a woman's right to choose, even after 6 months of pregnancy?"
There is a reason, why newspapers refer to one side as "
anti-abortion" activists, even though they call themselves "Pro-Life", yet they allow the other side their favorite nickname... "
Pro-Choice", even though, the reverse of "anti-abortionist" is "pro-abortionist"
Of course it's political bias. philbymon wrote:
Btw...who's making those 100's of thousands estimates? Do you believe THEM?
You can't believe "one" estimate, because there are so many competing estimates, and usually an agenda is involved. I've read everywhere from a "few" tens of thousands, to more than half a million. Even one estimate of ONE MILLION. The National Park Service stopped giving "official" estimates to the media, after the backlash of their estimate of the Million Man March on D.C., which they estimated at 400,000. A Park Service official, did give an estimate of 300,000 for the Beck event, but again, it won't be called "official" any longer.
What I am quite confident about, is that there were AT LEAST 100,000 people there. You can look at the aerial photos, and realize that NFL stadiums can hold as many as 80,000 people itself. The area covered by the people in this rally certainly surpassed SEVERAL football stadiums, going from the Lincoln Memorial, almost to the foot of the Washington Monument.
It is a VERY SAFE estimate, that there were over 100,000 in attendance. But you won't find many news outlets headlining that fact, or even mentioning it. King's speech was attended by more than 200,000 people. This event was said to be LARGER than the original. Too many OBVIOUS facts out there, to dispute that there were CERTAINLY over 100,000 people.
