Funny? Well, I can laugh about it now...
New Year's eve, about 1987 or 88 or so, had a gig to play with a two peice. Keyboards with drums & bass, me on guitar and sax, it worked quite well and we did a good job, had a pretty regular following.
I had very little equipment, was just starting to get a few things together, playing a Sigma acoustic with a pickup through a Peavey practice amp into a 1x12 cabinet I built, Morley Power Wah pedal for a llittle extra boost and of course, wah wah.
The speaker cabinet had a wire hanging out hte back with a female jack, that day I finally found a 3x3" plexiglas plate just right to mount a regular jack so I grabbed my drill. 4 holes on the corners were no problem, but when I drilled the large middle one for the jack, l was dumb enough to hold it down by hand. When the drill broke through the backside it grabbed and spun the plexiglas plate, which nicked my left thumb a couple times but chewed the left index fingertip up good. OUCH!
I wrapped it up - had to use gauze and medical tape, since we didn't seem to have a band aid anywhere - and off I went to play. I played a lot of sax and slide that night, tried to stay off that finger as much as possible, and ended up with blood all over my guitar, sax, clothes you name it. But we made the night with no serious problems and made good money.
I've always remembered to clamp anything I need to drill since then too...The offending plexiglas plate was replaced with a metal one a few years later, the cabinet still works fine but is about to be replaced too, it's seen better days. I think it still has the same jack though...
That's probably the most unusual holiday story, the rest are the typical stuff, inebriated patrons knocking over mic stands, that kind of thing. I drove 45 minutes to a gig one night and forgot my guitars at home, but I don't think that was a holiday...
