philby,
This one will get you. There are some establishments that put local music on their jukebox. But the musicians don't get anything but exposure for it.
"At one time, juke boxes were ripped out of bars & destroyed, because they were thought to steal profits from the hard-working musician. "
"As far as SG playing for free goes, that's fine & dandy, as long as he isn't playing a venue that can & should be paying ppl to play."
That is only because I wouldn't want to in the first place. But if I did want to I would. However, I'm not stupid. So why would I waste my time doing such a thing? So it isn't the principle that keeps me from doing something like that, it is my common sense.
To ease any tension, I do not play for free any place clubs pay for music. I have always taken this side of the debate simply because I would if I wanted to. Mainly because I am an anti establishment anti authority type of individual.
I believe that some jerk that came out of his mothers womb with the same rights that all men have, at that point, shouldn't be able to limit my rights and choices I make when most of those Hippocrates's don't obey the rules they make for me themselves.
As in our Neo Nazi Government who heap rules and regulation and all manner of financial burdens on the people who they were elected to represent. Rules and regulations for the populace that they personally exempt themselves from obeying.
So tell me somewhere I can't play and I will try to get a gig there. That would be my credo were I a clubbing musician. Simply because no one has a right to limit my personal freedom by their interpretation of what they decide should be the limits of my freedom of choice.
So I hope no one has taken the slightest offense in the opinions I have. But if you do, then F&*k all of ya that I offend.
Sorry. That's the biker in me taking over my keyboard.
