I'm so confused.

If you guys only knew just how foreign all this is to me.

If the firing pin was 0.001" short hell I could figure it out.

I'm not even sure where this thing is plugged in.

Sans.
Can you post the EXACT word for word, wording (Sorry about the garble). Of any error message you are getting, including any error number prefix suffix?

Cheers mate.

XP Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices,
(on top) Audio Tab, pull down for playback and recording (click apply).

(on top) Voice, pull down for playback and recording (click apply).

(on top) Volume, check off “place volume icon in the task bar” (click apply).

If you don’t get the speaker on the low right bar next to the time in Windows. Make a different selection for the pull downs. Hope it helps Sans

Ah I see Sent, it makes perfect sense. He’s getting sort of a chicken and egg problem with the Adobe regarding flash. Cant have flash without the update manager, can’t have the update manager without the rest of the OS being current. Once he updates the OS to current and IE to version 8, it has flash pre-installed. You are probably aware of that, just pointing out that it’s a good test point for the flash.

Sentient Paradox wrote:Lalong, he's got sound. There's nothing wrong with the card or drivers. It's a Flash problem. Probably a conflict with the system, because he had a factory reset done on it, and the updates probably haven't caught up yet.

I sent him the link to Windows Updates last night to hopefully speed up the process. More than likely that will eventually fix the conflict.

First, he Firefox wasn't totally up to date. We took care of that, but then when the Flash update is attempted, it wants to install Adobe Download Manager. I'm pretty sure it's that that's failing with some really long system error, so Flash can't be updated yet. I'm also nearly positive it's failing because ADLM is designed to work with current Windows updates, and isn't recognizing the system state as it was however far back it is in its updating.

He's gonna try Microsoft's update page for a while and either keep going with that until there are no critical updates needed, or check along the way to see if the DLM will install.

The printer issue may or may not work itself out in the process too, but even if it doesn't he should be able to go directly to the manufacturer's site and get the latest one to take care of that once the Window updates are where they need to be.

Sent, in the future go to filehippo.com.
You can get flash stuff without having to deal with the adobe download manager. That what I did cuz I refuse to play Adobes little game. Especially on Win 7.

(You can get lots of other stuff too)

Cool Sans, hey man did it just sort of start working without any particular step, or was it something specific that all of the sudden made it click? Just curious to learn the nature of the problem. Congrats man, that had to be frustrating. Never mind, read your other thread.

The worst was on earlier versions of adobe, it would set an updater to run silently in the background. And you never knew unless you count your processes running and checked your services.msc regularly.

AKA F_ck YOU ADOBE, you peckerheads give me a headache.
