Tronix, I just don't understand that.
I replaced a pretty damned good bass player in Flamingo Road, shortly after he died in a car crash. I had never even held a bass in my hands, before, but the guys all wanted me to at least try. They treated me like gold as I learned, too. They still treat me well, 12 years later.
This was the second bassist that had died in their ranks, too. They worried that it was a "band curse." They even warned me about it, which I thought was kinda funny, in a sad sorta way.
If any of them had died, I would do my best to make the replacement feel like he was wanted & needed, a boon to the band. How could anyone do otherwise?
When the guitarist left under bad circumstances, I tried my very best to accept his replacement, though the guy turned out to be a drunky twit who wouldn't keep in tune. So, yeah, I became a bit of an a-hole.
