For me, this belongs in the category...
"Just because YOU CAN do something... doesn't mean YOU SHOULD!"
Badi Assad, is internationally known as an accomplished guitarist and performer, in the genres of world beat and jazz.
I'll chalk it off to the "jazz" influence she has. But for me, the noises... particularly the CLUCKING, was really a distraction to the FEEL of the rest of the song.
Check out her cover of "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurhythmics:

Same kind of thing in my opinion.
There are places where I think... "Yeah... hey, this would be a cool song done passionately and sung slowly, especially with those lyrics. But then it is ruined (to me at least) with the sometimes TOO BUSY picking underneath, and then jolting you with more rock-like strumming in places. You can call it artsy, but it doesn't work for me. What were you going for Badi? Confetti? Little pieces of songs thrown haphazardly together?
If the goal is to make people say... WTF???
Job well done.
Personally though, I like to have a song be grounded in EMOTION that takes the listener on an EMOTIONAL JOURNEY. Not a journey that throws them around for no apparent reason, in the backseat... like being driven by a cabby in Manhattan!
Save that feeling for Metal.
But you can't argue with success. She has a very sultry voice at times, and I am sure, if I took the time to hear more of her stuff, I would find tunes of hers that I absolutely loved...
But...
I'm not gonna go look for those today.
