Q: You know what you call a guy who likes to hang out with musicians?

A: vocalist :P

My drummer will be thrilled to hear that.

I certainly don't feel like anyone owes me an apology. Heck, the stuff on my profile are either partially written or just demo songs that I've already pulled apart to put into new songs. The only thing I'm trying to prove as a musician, and yes a song writer, is that I have a particular style. They're up there to get nibbles from other prospects, which I've gotten, but I see I do have to put up some new stuff...which will still be demos and not full songs.

I smell a little ego bro. Cmon Klug, a challenge? If it's not a challenge just for fun, and for the sake of pushing yourself, then what's the point?

I've heard good songs that have lasted for about 1 minute, to 20 minutes. There are no rules...

KLUGMO------ I goota be honest, I like your vocals, especially on Mountain of Aluminum. You really nailed that with soul and intensity.

I like your singing on The Only Lady in the Room also.

I did not listen to all of them, but the ones I did hear sounded good.

Wow! This thread has gone nuts. Db, I didn't listen to the second song. The first one was good, though...already told you that, and still you had to post something else to get my "professional critique". Whatever.
As for your backtracking on your original statement:
First, it was, "anybody can write; It's not rocket science." Then, you go back and correct yourself (weakly), saying that you didn't mean just anybody could write GOOD songs.
So now, I'm confused. What did the statement mean? Would you say that anybody could drive a race car in a NASCAR event...it's not brain surgery (and conveniently leave out the fact that the individual doing so would probably crash and burn?). Was there actually a point for making that statement in the first place?
I think you are a decent musician. I think you are a decent songwriter. I think you developed these abilities through years of hard work-as opposed to waking up one morning and just doing it. I think you are proud to show off the songs you have written BECAUSE of the care and effort that you put into them-slapping something together and showing it off would have proven you to be an idiot, especially here.
And yet, you seem to dismiss your own abilities and hard work by stating that any jerk-off on the street could do the exact same thing.
You should be ashamed of yourself-not just for demonstrating such carelessness towards your fellow musicians, but for discounting your own work.
As for my Karoake comment, well, all I can say is that I'm a purist. I believe that real music comes from real people. I don't use backing tracks, drum machines-I won't even use MIDI. I actually turned down a gig scheduled for TONIGHT because the guy running the show was using a drum machine (among other reasons). I don't like what you do, and I never will.
The thing you need to keep in mind is this: These are just my opinions!
They are there for you to do with what you will: Get angry, ignore them, have a good cry, poke fun at me for them...I really don't care. In fact, I think it's quite funny that you accepted my little challenge, all the while anxious to prove the QUALITY of your work.

My point exactly. Thanks for proving it. Not just anyone can do what you've done, and you went out of your way to make that clear. The pride you've demonstrated in sharing these tunes is well founded-and that sense of pride only comes through hard work.

I'm sure you get my point. If you do, then maybe you could go ahead and retract that statement...it won't hurt to admit you were wrong, I promise.

It looks like my attention span went a little off course while reading through eight pages of this battle. So Klugmo, I'm sorry if I pointed your way. :)

Again, I just saw the word "challenge". Who is offering up challenges for song writing showdowns? Haha! This is madness!

Please keep this thread up and poppin' guys! This is like musician soap opera, or musical Springer...with a little political flare.

OK --- It's Sunday morning and I am sobering up. I found myself in a chair, dressed and soaking wet from being out in the rain last night for some reason. What a mess I am. I enjoyed the thread battle with dB and plan to do it again real soon. This is a great place. I have been practicing every Wednesday after work for 2 hours with this church band that has never played any Country before. Trying to get them ready for a gig on July 3rd. I will be singing 5 songs.

Don't come cryin to me -- Vince Gill
Castles in the air -- Don Mclean
High Lonesome Sound -- Vince Gill
Young Man -- Billy Dean
This Is Your Brain -- Joe Diffie

It will be fine.

I was thinking, which is always dangerous.
Thinking of all the people who just watch the core group of about 10 or 15 of us go on and on ranting and dicussing, bitching and moaning, comparing and complimenting each other. I think we are pretty entertaining in general. I believe the key for us is to not take each other too seriously and realize we are all conected through music.
Thats nice.

When I lived in California I woke up sitting up on the edge of the bed fully clothed and soaking wet one morning. Evidently I got dressed in my sleep and went for a walk in the rain storm without waking up. I have no idea how long I had been sitting up on the edge of my bed. And I had no idea of where I had been or why.

The only other event like that happened over 40 years later. I went downstairs one morning and found the inside kitchen window glass shattered and some of my stereo speakers thrown violently to the floor. At first I thought someone had done it from the outside, but when I realized that only the inside window was broken. I was really puzzled.

In either case I was not drinking or doing any drugs what so ever. Perhaps I have had event less sleep walks without consequence that I am unaware of, but I'll never forget those two events.

Could it be because I don't get out much and my subconscious is pissed at me?
