It just sounds like so much angry, pointless chaos to me.

If you think you have something that would change my mind on the subject, I'd welcome a link to it.

It's only because you've probably only heard a small sample of the type of vocal usage. I could'nt care less what you or anyone else thinks to be honest, but since you asked for a link...here it is...and there's hundreds more where that came from... 8)

Thanks for the link

More singing than scream / growl.
Now see, I could hang with that a while.
Unfortunately most of what I hear from said genre' is growling near indistinguishable vocalizations of vulgarities.
Not my thing at all.

Here's one that totally blows me away no matter how many times that I hear it. This singer is totally INSANE!!! This is the type of band that I'm building at the moment, but I'm having a little problem with finding a singer that can do this stuff...NO KIDDIN', LOL!!!

For those of you that don't like the death metal vocal...hang in there until around 45 seconds or so and you'll be blown away as well...seriously. This dude blows the boots right off Halford and Owens.

I think you proved my point, MD. Bullet For My Valentine sings more than screeches in this one. Excellent voice & a wonderful range, btw.

The other one was just too out there for me. Once again - no melody...at least until around 1:30 or so. I'll give 'im this - it totally amazes me that he can growl for cookies & then sing those high notes in the same song. Can he do it live? If he can, it is impressive, though it still doesn't grab me anywhere.

The entire composition seems a little drab to me, really. The quick guitar work, the speed drumming, et all, notwithstanding. When you put it all together, it's wasted on me, for some reason. It just seems so pointless, like a waste of high energy, to me.

OK big Phil...here's one for ya. Now that Shawn and I are at it again, the people that have been coming over compare us to these guys a lot (as well as many others, but especially these guys). BTW...I never liked Jay's screaming (the songs on my page), I just put up with it for as long as I could...

Liked that one, MD. Thanks. The use of the screech for the bridge was effective.

That drummer must be something, if he can sing like that sitting down!

Cool Phil! I figured that you'd dig that more. Shawn and I need to start recording here soon so I can get some clips up. We're looking for a singer like Atreyu since we're writing similar. If you looked up more of their stuff, you'd probably dig it as well. The sparing use of the scream vocal is what we're looking for...just like the vid. Only use it as an accent and then forget it.

And yeah...the drummer is fantastic! He sings and plays live like that too. Sounds just like the CD live. Very gifted musicians, but they catch a lot of flack from the harder core metalheads. But then again...so do Shawn and I, LOL!

Yeah, the Atreyu (s/p?) tune was a musical composition in comparison with the previous pointless galloping gallop fest. 50 seconds of that was all I could handle.
I know it's all a matter of taste.
I appreciate you taking the time to differentiate for us Metal D

For some odd reason I've been wanting a female vocalist, like a cross between Joan Jett and Pat Benatar, or my girl from Heart. That might sound pretty interesting with my thrashy mid-tempo riffs. I think a sassy, but rough female voice would add a different element to the music.
