Thanks for the informative vid, Nav4!

Hey now! That same thing happened to me about 9 months ago. We were practicing with a new bass player that was pretty hyper and he kept getting into my area (during that song in particular I had to switch between clean and distortion 4 times). When I went to go to my pedal towards the end of a breakdown, he was still thrashing around and hit me right in the mouth with the headstock of the bass. The tuning peg broke half of one of my teeth off and cut up my gums pretty bad, but being the hardcore dude that I am, I kept playing. At least until Jay was getting pissed about all of the blood that was getting on his floor...

EDIT: Yes...I have a crown now that cost about $750. I'd like to at least smash his bass because it's worth about that.

whoa!! Easy there big fella..Basses don't bash people, dumb asses bash people. Don't blame the bass, blame the bass owner, did he have his concealed bass permit? If not I'd revoke his right to bear basses, on the spot.
Very hardcore sir, kudos, lol
at last weeks rehearsal, our lead singer smashed his own eye, on the head stock of my lead guitarist, gave him a nice deep little one stitch type cut right in the corner of his eye, and knocked my leads guitar a full step out of tune..my singer and lead finished the song, and looked really metal with a small stream of blood trickling down his face..lol

Hey, jazz can be painful, too.

Victor Wooten threw his bass around his neck like that, in the past. One time he did it wrong, & it flew out, & then the horn on his bass came smashing back into his throat. He couldn't sing for over a week.

It's bad when you hit someone else, but hitting yourself must be especially embarrassing!

LOL

Got to give that bassist credit for impeccable timing.
If that dickhead screamed that during one of my shows it would not be my guitar that knocked his fatass out.

Look at that !! The guitar player is keeping perfect rhythm kicking the unconscious singer in the head. LOL

actually screamo started as an emotional hardcore scene in the midwest that used a poetic yet abrasive style of music with an off key clean vocal sound and sporadic screaming throughout, too heavy to be "emo", but too soft to be considered "metal" or "hardcore"

I'm impressed, Steve. That's EXACTLY how "screamo" got started. No offense to any of these guys, but out of all the posts on this thread so far...only you, myself, and Tronix would know that. A lot of these guys think that if there's any "scream/growl" vocals in the song at all, it's considered "screamo" . They have absolutely NO IDEA how many genres and sub-genres actually use that type of vocal...even if it is very sparse.

Once again...no offense to those that didn't know. It's about time that everyone learns what genre the music that they hear falls under. Metal has more sub-genres than any other form of music...and for good reason. 8)

It's human nature to "lump" sub genre' of an aspect of music that aint your bag.

Like when I talk about "country music" talk about a proliferation of sub genre' ... it's just country to me.
Just like most modern metal is "scr eamo" to me.

And Rock N Roll ... well thats just the devils music.

I am tired of all the labeling. Genre/sub-genre...blah blah blabboo-dee-blah.

First question - is it music?

Second - does it have direction, melody, & meter?

Third - will I remember it, tomorrow?

If the answer to any of these is no, I find that I'm just not interested.

Sorry if it offends (& it evidently does, to you screamo fans), but that's pretty much all there is to make points with most ppl's ears.

Why are the screamos so sensitive, anyway? They sound like they're so tough when they play & growl & stuff, but inside, they get all ruffled & defensive when someone says derogatory stuff about their genre. Most of them won't hesitate to pan country or folk, or even prog, genres that do try to reach ppl on an emotional level. I have yet to hear a screamo act that could reach me emotionally (other than make me wanna hit something/someone). I have yet to hear any that I can remember, & as far as melodic content goes...well...that just gets tossed out the window before you start, doesn't it? It just sounds like so much angry, pointless chaos to me.

I cannot seem to find it in myself to embrace chaos, either in the real or in music. Nothing personal. It just doesn't touch me at all, except in negative ways. I've tried to listen to it. Honest I have!

If you think you have something that would change my mind on the subject, I'd welcome a link to it. But the only screamo stuff I've ever found to be even halfway listenable was the stuff that used actual singing in conjunction with it.

Ugh, no screamo for me, thank you. Nothing like hearing grown men shout like angry little boys with a chorus that sounds more like moaning than singing. They forgot that a little vibrato can sound masculine if you do it right.

I'm not insulted, I'm just explaining the origin... also, if you want to hear some actual screamo, the bands I love anyhow, check out some of these bands, it might clearify the difference in sun-genre's: saetia, i robot, you & i, the assistant, knives and greenwater, joshua fit for battle

just to name a few

Thank you. And bro, keep up the good work, I really like your sound. Gives me the feel of 2001 era Diecast or This Day Forward with a touch of older Unearth. I like it a lot. And don't be put off by older, but if you know those bands, they were incredible, then they became famous and sounded like Creed got the singer from Trapt, ugh.

I just think it would have been REALLY funny if, after he was smacked in the face, he began singing like Tiny Tim.
