That would be difficult to determine as most of the animal based styles have similar motion philosophy.
The handwork had some aspect of Crane and Snake. The kicking style was typical of a Northern System and they were obviously adhering to some tournament rules disallowing any contact below the waist.
( Most Southern Chinese styles do not employ kicks above the waist)
There are thousands ( if not millions ) of family based styles which is a hallmark of the Chinese Martial Arts. Hell I even have my own Three Circles Fist style.
For what it's worth both of these gents display the extremely poor footwork that is inherent in practicing "point sparring". And could easily be swept or taken down. To retreat more than two steps straight back is a fatal combat mistake.

I have studied the Seven Star Mantis style for several years and enjoyed it quite a lot .
Was a difficult transition for me though because my original Sifu taught Xing Qi Dao which has few forms and was based on focusing externally and turning off internal dialogue so one could respond to external stimuli.
The "playing of forms " for me represented a shift to an internal focus so I could perform the training sets. The result was every time my focus would shift external I would forget what I was doing.
Kind of embarrassing in forms competitions.

Is Seven Star the one with the monkey style footwork?
All they have around here is kenpo, tae kwon do, JKD, judo, and BJJ.
Well, there's a place that claims it's shaolinl but I don't believe em.

Yes the Seven Star does incorporate the Monkey footwork.
The lineage I studied also incorporated some Hung Ga.
Man those are some bad assed forms. If nothing else these guys are usually in phenomenal condition.
I have studied a little Kenpo, and Isshinryu. Trained with some really good fighters from both of those systems.
Right now I'd have to use my Black Belt in 1911.
Man I'm out of shape. LOL

I know karate, kung fu, jujitsu and two other Japanese words... :D

You guys think you're out of shape, I tried to do a pull up a few days ago and had to rest for a half hour...

I get tired just watching joggers...

LOL

You know it's funny to me how with the UFC craze all of a sudden everyone's a fighter ( or a race car driver in the south LOL )

They claim to be the "ultimate".

The most important thing a person can learn by watching UFC is to recognize what happens to these " ultimate warriors " when one of em gets kicked in the boys or a finger in the eye.
Eight months of full time training and a million dollar fight is over.

POOF ! LOL

Real combat does not last but seconds.\
And there is only one rule.
WIN OR DIE.

So...what style is this?

How's come I never see anyone using that "magic sleeve technique" I keep seeing in those strange karate movies?

You know, the one where the bad guy's sleeve elongates & smashes stuff?

I think it must be a bad guy move, cuz I've never seen a good guy using it.

Now that is funny!

Actually the "magic sleeve" is based on reality. The traditional Chinese dress at the turn of the century included extra long sleeves. It was not unusual for weights or blades to be attached to sleeves or ponytails.

Much of what is exaggerated in the "Kung Fu Theater" type flicks has some basis in fact.

It always amazed me how people who will watch a Superman or Spiderman movie 100 times, talk about "fake" Kung Fu movies.

Well DUH, they are oriental superheros. What the hell did you expect? Of course they can fly.

That particular "trip" as he called it is a very common technique.
The in line torso and toe up posture of the tripping leg as well as the pointed index finger in the plucking hand look very familiar and are shared with all of the Mantis variations I've seen.
I also had been taught that as an " off centering " technique associated with my Sifu's Mi Tsung Yi and Ba Gua heritage. Utilizing a slightly different posture and a kicking - hooking motion with the trapping leg.

I could not tell you how many times I've been told "don't muscle it .. it's all in the hips!!
