Well, since we're talking guns a little...Sans, what would you recommend, a Colt 45 or 45 semi auto? I've shot a semi auto, but have been told those guns tend to jam up a lot.

Really I'm just looking for an indoor protection piece. Your opinion sir?

Only poorly set up and or poorly maintained semi autos jam " a lot ".
I rarely ever experience a failure to feed or extract.
That being said, if a man is going to compete or bet his life on any semi auto he should train in proficiently clearing jams as it is always a possibility.

The .45LC is an excellent old cartridge left over from the black powder era.
Plenty of knock down to be a fight stopper and amazingly accurate in a good weapon.
I hand load mine with a hard cast 255 grain lead bullet at a moderate velocity. I have hand loaded them for a Ruger Black Hawk at near 44 mag energy levels.

I recommend the gun you are comfortable with. That's whats important.
My concealed carry choice is a Smith and Wesson model 19-4 357 with a four inch barrel.
I hand load a moderate velocity 158 grain lead semi wadcutter.
Supremely accurate, mild recoil ( for a 357 ). Another reason I carry a revolver besides extreme reliability is I always carry. Often when around home the first round is a shot shell ( like a little shotgun ) that is great for dispatching snakes or breaking up a dog fight.

The best protection in the home is a short barreled or youth model 12 or 20 gauge shotgun loaded with # 6 -#8 shot.
Lethal at "indoor" ranges and a lot less likely to over penetrate walls endangering by standers / neighbors.
The sound of a shotgun being pumped into battery is the universal "get the hell out of my house" sound. 8)

You are welcome. I don't consider myself an expert lacking the machinery or knowledge to custom build my own firearms. I do have a passion and life long experience to draw from. It is amazing to me how little the majority of people know about firearms. Especially those whom claim to have some knowledge.
I cannot watch an episode of Myth Busters if it deals with firearms.
They always use the wrong era of weapon. IE an 1860 Springfield rifled musket reproduction from the Civil War era to test a Davey Crockett myth ?
Or they continuous miss identify the weapons IE calling a shotgun a rifle or calling an M1A a Garand . Hell it does not even fire the same cartridge.
They call it science ? I call it bullshit.

Ok no probs. Actually you've just reminded me that I'd forgotten for the second time this week about posting the recipe.

Well...here I sit, at 2 PM, & I dunno if I'll be playing tonight cuzza the weather.

It's an outside gig. I hafta transport my amp in the bed of my pickup cuz the wife is using her car.

It's supposed to be raining all day, off & on.

GRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Boy! This thread sure has changed a lot!

I had yet another crash, but I come up with a great solution...well...it'd be great if this dratted machine actually HAD backed up all my files! I've lost everything! I'm a lil PO'd, so please forgive my language as I say "Aw @%%#$#@!@$@$# this @%%#$@$!!% thing!

Hey! Look at me! I'm a computer tech!

It's kinda funny how this one came about. I got an update message from msn, so I clicked on it, cuz I noticed I was slowing down a bit.

Then, after I waited for the thing to load, I got an "access denied" message, & my 'puter started to remove whatever it had installed, except that it DIDN'T uninstall it, & I lost my IE.

So, for 2 days I messed with it until I pretty much gave up. I figgered I'd go to a friend's house & dowmload Linux onto a CD & get it that way, & then try to fix whatever happened later.

Then I was messing around with it & discovered that I could just refresh everything while saving my stuff, so I tried it. Of course, it erased everything I had. No pics. No music. No games. No favorites. None of the stuff I had is with me anymore.

It seems like all I'm getting anymore is just "one of those days" after another...

My wife's gonna KILL me when she sees what I've done...eh..maybe THEN she'll get over it!

Now I guess I'll hafta reload Avast...

We're gonna practice tonight, but I think I have it all down pretty well.

Ya know, sans, I'm not sure, but I think I might be in a band, now...at least for a trial period.

The keyboard guy talked as if I was in, like, regularly or something, when we prscticed the other day.

I wasn't really expecting to be a regular member, or anything. Thought I was just a one-off phil-in guy, ya know?

So since I missed this paying gig, they're putting me in on thier next Wed nite gig to make up for it, perhaps.

Maybe they're just waiting to see how I do live. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. Maybe I got my hopes too high.

I dunno what to think of it, so I'm gonna stop thinking, & get back to just doing what I do for the gig.

Thing that gets me is that the guitarist said he's paying me gas $ just to practice tonight. How often does one hear stuff like that from ppl?

They did seem to think that I picked it up faster than they did...from what they said...unless they're buttering me up...there I go thinking again...gotta stop that...

LOL

I really like to look like an idjit sometimes, don't I?

I know it's just a thing. It's just been so long since I had anything cool to do, musically, & I'm in a real rambling kinda mood lately.

Practice without the keys went well. I made fewer mistakes than the guitarist, as far as I can tell, so I'm doin' fine. This is some complicated stuff, though it looks pretty easy at the outset. It's an interesting set list, for sure. Everything from roadhouse blues kinda stuff to Glen Miller to latin rhythms to out there odd things. They're threatening some Atlanta Rhythm Section, which is such a nightmare, in case you've never played the stuff. Every verse/chorus is slightly different. Try "Champagne Jam" sometime, & you'll see what I mean.

I'm almost kinda glad that the gig was shot down by the rain. I FINALLY got a CD to work with tonight. I've had to work from memory to date, & when the 'puter crashed, I didn't even have youtube to work with. (I'm one of those guys who takes notes, but never looks at 'em. Seems like just writing them down is enough, more often than not. Is that weird?)

My drummer called & said he saw an ad in CL nearby for a band wanting a bass player, too. Neat-o! (Who the hell says "neat-o?")

My teensy little GK keyboard amp sounds pretty good as a bass amp for practice. It's a cool little thing with a single 12" spkr, & plenty of power, considering it's small size. Sure is nicer to lug than that damned Peavey Combo 300.

Youre plenty smart enough to cure your computer woes Phil.
Edjumukate yerself!

One little thing I do sometimes (if a file is really important to me), is to send an email to myself - store the file in me webmail.
Most free webmail lets you store several gigabytes worth of stuff.

I think yahoo mail will even re scan it for you with their antivirus stuff when you go to download it to a machine.
