The harmonica was an add-on to the song; the song is complete without it.
It is not supposed to stand out.
But I think it does have it's moments . . .
Don't think of the harmonica as a lead - think of it more like ocassional back-up vocals.
.
If you can leave the room and still hear it - and also every instrument - then it's balanced just right.
.
This song wil NEVER have a lead instrument on top of it.
A lead would only take away from the simplicty of the interchange between the 3 primary instruments: Guitar, Bass, and vocals.
Without that honest simplicty, the song would not be mellow, just busy.
.
Listen to the timing and the rhythm of the bass guitar on the bridge and chorus. And listen to the interaction between the rhythm guitar and bass guitar.
I do not want to disturb that rhythm . . . I certainly don't want to have it buried . . .

Yes, I see what your saying.
Understand though my only experience is mixing my own style of rock music. Hence my comments, not necessarily as suggestion but simple as observation.
Beautiful arranged piece.

As always ... Thanks for the music!

Thanks.
And, yeah, I realize you play a completely different style of music, so I know where you're coming from;
Couldn't be much different, eh?
Hard style versus soft style. Both styles work to "get a message across," eh?
(And, let's keep the subtext it hidden, shall we? You understand, and I prefer a certain degree of anonymity).
.
But anyway - a lot of my "lead" is alread done by the bass, and sometimes caused by "phantom notes" being synthesized in unusual chords which come and go with the interaction of the vocals, but mostly between guitar and bass.
Kinda like interference patterns from 2 different crossing light waves, forming a 3rd color at a different spot . . .
. . . .
Uhh, yeah . . . anyway . . .
my point being -
Ahh - music . . . the universal language . . .
