All very simple.
If you use the PC just for regular use then a Mac or Linux isn't rocket science. how many headaches do you really need in a week?

Actually, Chippy, I guess I've been lucky up to now. I've had only two scares in four years with my IE.

That being said, I'm still interested in getting that firefox stuff, in case this crap happens again.

This is the same thing that caused me to lose all my music and photos.
A virus pretending to be an anti virus to sell you an anti virus.
What a load of crap.

Good man George. I've been telling everyone that I know to get Avast for quite a while now. It's the ONLY program out there that stops all of the "ROUGE ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS" like Anti-Vir 2010. Norton and Mcaffee will let it right through. I just had to completely re-do my friend's laptop because of that program and he had the newest and best Notron on it. Now he has Avast Internet Security and has zero problems.

So...I'm looking through the threads in here. My wife has gone out with a friend, & I'm all alone & comfortable.

Suddenly, I almost pooped my pants when this strict woman's voice comes on & states that "Virus updates are done," or somesuch. That scared the hell outta me, guys, & I'm not ashamed to admit it! It was like she was standing in the room with me!

Yeah, I think I'm gonna like Avast. It'll keep me on my toes!

I only have a BM window open at the moment, & that lady just told me there was a trojan horse virus attempted in here. That stuff's everywhere, it seems.

yeah philby... I don't know a good way to tell you how to find the name of it, or how to eradicate it.. I kind of fly by instinct when I'm cleaning a PC. My wife is a moderator on a kids site and she has to approve any links that get posted on the chat boards.. so she gets some real winners on her PC.. I'm a pro at removing that crap...

Most of it gets past the virus scanners because it uses your web browser and is basic, common code - so the virus programs rarely detect it. Some actually initiate windows toolbar pop-up's and appear to be windows telling you to click (malicious) stuff, which then puts the virus on your PC.. Trojans have really matured.

Best bet is to just triple your coverage, download and use spybot, ad-aware, and a good virus program. Run them all at least once a week. There's another program called CCleaner. Here's links to the spyware removers and cleaners:

ad-aware: http://download.cnet.com/Ad-Aware-Free- ... l&tag=top5

Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/ownm ... index.html

CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Good luck!
