Greetings,

We are a special people....us musicians. And we come in all shapes and sizes with different backgrounds and influences. But we can't carry our art around like a painter or illustrator might. We work with sound..It's invisible!!!
It would be in your (and my) best interest to post actual music files to our Bandmix profile page so we can all communicate more efficiently.
It's easily the most important facet of this whole Bandmix "gig" as far as I'm concerned. So come on!!...post MUSIC!!!!

Sincerely,

Kie

I have maintained some music on my site most of the time I have been here.
There is a lot of music if you know where to look.
There is also a lot of dead wood.
We could roast marshmallows and sing songs.

I agree, but I think many think that their music will be stolen and millions of $ will be made from it and they wont get a penny. It is so simple to copyright. You can actually copyright for the price of a stamp if you send your music to yourself in registered mail and don't open it. That's called a poor mans copyright.

Actually, that is not a reliable method of copyright. Here is an article (one of many) about the "Poor Man's Copyright":

http://www.copyrightauthority.com/poor-mans-copyright/

Copyright exists from the time of completion of the work, not the actual date of copyright. If you mark all copies, lyric sheets, CD's, etc. with the copyright symbol, author's name and date, even if you have not yet received the official copyright notification, you are protected.

As to the thread topic, there are tracks on my profile. They are cover songs. I don't put originals online, I pitch them to producers directly.

OK, let me get this through my Grunt head. I have a song and it has a (c) on it, my name and date which I could have put on there 5 mins before. Or I have the same song with a (c) on it in an envelope of registered and dated unopened mail. Which one is safer right now?

According to US law, neither,
I'll release some stuff this year under the CC license.
Actually I'm looking forward to doing that since others can cooperate and change what I started.

I think they call that Evolution.

One reason that sending something to yourself in registered mail, does not generally hold up in court, is that nothing prevents you from sending an UN-sealed envelope to yourself, and getting the date stamp... and then YEARS later, putting anything you want in there, and THEN sealing the envelope, making it "APPEAR" that the seal had never been broken. Well, and actually, it hadn't.... but only because you SEALED IT sometime AFTER you received it back in the mail, rather than BEFORE, you mailed it.

If anyone stole my music I would just steal it back with hopes of the culprit not finding out. :D
