Tebow's pre-Wonderlic prayer request falls flat

As we've mentioned once or twice, quarterback Tim Tebow's habit of openly expressing his religious beliefs could potentially rub folks the wrong way, especially in a locker room of grown men who choose to keep their beliefs to themselves, who don't share his beliefs at all, and/or who only want to hear "God bless" after they have sneezed.

We're told that Tebow already has gotten a taste of the resistance he might face at the next level.

At the Scouting Combine, the Wonderlic exam is administered to players in groups. The 12-minute test is preceded by some brief instructions and comments from the person administering the test.

Per a league source, after the person administering the test to Tebow's group had finished, Tebow made a request that the players bow their heads in prayer before taking the 50-question exam.

Said one of the other players in response: "Shut the f--k up." Others players in the room then laughed.

We're not passing judgment on this one; we're just passing along what we've heard. And it illustrates the type of challenges that could be faced by the team that drafts Tebow.

That said, some teams might embrace those challenges. The final decision will depend largely on the composition of the team, and the personalities of the coach, the G.M., and the owner.

I don't care what his religious beliefs are.

But as an NFL fan - and specifically a Seahawks fan - I do care about his inability to play the QB position.

Guy cannot play QB in the NFL. I don't know why anyone thinks he can. He can't throw and can't read a defense and his decision-making is questionable.

People like to talk about his "intangibles" and how much of a "leader" he is. Well, they said the same thing about Danny Wuerffel. And like Tebow, Wuerffel couldn't throw and couldn't read a defense and was out of the NFL in the blink of an eye.

Tebow should go into the ministry, because he's not NFL material.

I don't even watch college football.

The NFL separates truly great players, from those many, who only seem great, while in college.

Vince is barely playing in the NFL. Up to this point, he's largely been a bust. But he has a much better arm than Tebow does.


The NFL is simple: To be a quality QB, you have to do three things:

1) have a strong enough arm to make all the throws accurately. You don't need a cannon - accuracy is paramount, but you have to be able to make all the throws, or else defenses will not respect certain routes.

2) be able to read a defense and get the ball to the open man

3) not commit turnovers

To be an elite QB you have to do all those things better than everyone else, which requires dedication, film study, etc. This is why JaMarcus Russell has been a failure and Peyton Manning is an all-time elite QB.

But way too many people get caught up in a lot of other attributes that have no bearing on being a quality QB. Tebow's scrambling and jump-passing won't work at the NFL level. The defenders are too fast and smart for that college gimmick junk.

I think Tebow is going to surprise the nay-sayers. It all depends on the team that drafts him. When the Titans picked Vince Young for example I said that was the WORST team that could have picked him. The Titans for years had run the most conservative offense. I've never understood why Fisher is acclaimed as a great coach. His offenses look like they are waddling in mud half the time. Vince young would have been a perfect pick by a team with a wide open offensive mentality. Vince started doing better this past season because the offense opened up more. Tebow needs to be drafted by a team that allows him to utilize his runnning prowess. We all remember when Michael Vick ran wild with the Falcons. Vick is not a prototype drop-back passer, and the Falcons let him create plays with his legs. Tebow is similar to Vick, a hard running back style playing QB. If the wrong team drafts him he'll be a bust, the right team drafts him he'll be a star...

i agree for the most part but i do think hed make one hell of a tightend so i cant agree 100%. but i think that and fullback would be about the only positions he could even remotely excel at in the league. but i am glad someone finally told him to stfu. tebow for a beastly and big as he is comes off to me as a complete puss off the field lol.

Tebow as slow as he is had a lot of opponents looking at his backside as he entered the end zone playing at the highest level of Division I college. There has been a lot of former Heisman trophy winners who were a bust in the NFL. I think Tebow will be an excellent NFL player and he just might surprise you at QB...only time will tell.

i think his drive and work ethic alone will find him some success at the next level. but as u said only time will tell. i think hes a good kid and i wish him the best, just wish he would pray to himself more often lol.

It's okay for him to pray out loud anywhere he wants to. That's called freedom of speech. Those around him are also free not to listen...

Don't forget about "HEART"! It can go a long way in sports in general, And Tim Tebow seems to have a lot of it! Time will Tell!

Oh and yeah, playing the NFL, you have to have great qualities, but especially at QB. TRUE GRIT. Totally different world from college football. For every QB we know from the last 20 years the great ones have the ability to risk making a major mistake and pick them selves up and try again even when they fail.

The only time we fail is when we don't try. (C) 2011 GJ ,,,LOL.

Tebow has room to grow. He's a kid.
I'm all about them 'Noles and he sure laid a whoopin' on us and a some others. We watched closely and painfully hehe. But He worked and earned it. Tebow has undeniable talent and spirit for days.
I bet he'll do big things, bigger than in college and ahem now. In due time...
