Well here it is. I was contacted by mail that an Indie Record Company was interested in some of my material. This one sounds rather legit. They haven't asked for any cash. Much to my disbelief....Anyway, the company' name and website is as follows. www.hilltoprecords.com
Take a look, some of you might be interested....Have any of you folks ever heard of them??????

BObby Alan (my first and middle name by the way), this one is suspect. I don't understand why you would want to mess with anything like this. Your songs that you've posted here sound good enough to promote AS IS. Get them copywrited and start sending them by e-mail to as many people as possible. If you think one of your songs might be a good one for a particular artist sned it to the recording company that artist is on. Keep sending them out, don't stop. Do you have a myspace page? facebook? twitter? PROMOTE YOURSELF like you do here on Bandmix. You're a fine songwriter, you don't need hilltoprecords. Have you been able to get your own band together? YOU CAN DO THIS YOURSELF YOU'RE VERY GOOD!

I've gotten mail from them.
Some of it sounded suspect, some sounded ok. Someone famous was supposebly endorsing them, I think.
Anyway . . .
There was a thread about "Hilltop Records" on this forum about 8 - 12 months back.
Some folks here paid a few hundred dollars to join, or something, and got next-to nothing in return, I think.
Don't quite me, ok?
I don't fully recall.
But I recall enough to know that I don't consider them seriously anymore.
But - you'd better do more reseach on this one.
Start with the BBB in their home state and town; then expand your search.
Google their name, and stuff . . . look around first . . .
If you're looking for a record company - what made you choose this one over all the others?
Not just bcause they contacted you with a form letter, I hope . . .
Look at other companies FIRST.

Well guy's, I recieved a contract from them, "Hilltop Records", to use "Let the Party Begin". After reading the contract about 5 paragraphs down, in order to have the song, which they say is what they are looking for to add to their CD project, America, they proceeded to tell me for the final screening they wanted $300. It could be broken up in payments. Another bullshi* record company. Anyway guys, I have decided to forget about them. Why these orginzations are getting in touch with me, I don't know. I will take heed and follow your recommendations Bob.
Thanks guys for all your info....
Bobby

It seems that the only way to cut through the bullshitt labels is to find a Publishing Company that likes your material and will publish it. That eliminates the illegit scammer's. Just tell em to contact your publisher!

sounds simple enough huh... I just got damned lucky that's all!

It's not really a label if they want $$ up front just to review your material.

It's nothing but a scam.

I wonder if they've actually marketed anything they ever published, or if they just let any releases fail since they got their $$ from the artists already.

Sad.

right out of their FAQ, this says it all

Will HillTop promote my Band?

We are looking for new songs to professionally record using our great team of arrangers and musicians. We then package and promote those songs, but we are not, at this time, looking for new singers or bands, nor do we act as agents or representatives for singers or bands.

Can I talk to you on the phone?

All communication with songwriters must be in writing. This policy is designed to promote clear, black and white communication, and it is for our mutual benefit. Please put all material, questions and comments in a letter and send it to HillTop Records, Inc., 6600 Sunset Blvd., #302, Hollywood, CA 90028. We will respond promptly.
