Make sure they have the cash for you at the end of each gig.

I was thinking the same thing.

I use an agent!

I not only trained her, I sired her 26 years ago.

She's better at keeping me busy than the big shot Manager or Record Label I left. She's also happy with %15 of gig (but not merch) and does what I ask her to do. We work together on a tour strategy and she follows through with the plan.

And I REALLY like paying her because it means my grand-daughter's mom gets to stay home.

I use a combination of:
- Google Calendar to keep track of gigs and dates

That works great for posting gigs, and having a private event schedule for daily notes.

- Xero to send invoices

Paypal or Square

- Mac Mail to keep track of clients/contact

I use Neat for offline database. Have been using Constant Contact for online database, but they're expensive so I will be transferring that stuff to Bandzoogle.

One cool thing that a pro-package website at Bandzoogle does is collect emails and sorts them by zip code. They also give you a 10k mailing list ability. That's the best $16 per month you could spend, btw.
