No, it was real. He wanted to thank me personally for hosting the OM. I contributed the money to a fund one of his brothers started for their mother (their 80-year-old father recently passed away with minimal life insurance).

Hey, I didn't believe it, either! That's why I paid it forward. I also slipped most of my last OM pay to the bartender who arranged the whole thing and hired me. 10 OMs in, thought it was worth a little karma.
