An A&R as many of you know if the person within the record label that scouts for bands / artists to sign to a record deal. This person then works closely with the artist and teams up with the other departments from beginning to end to ensure their artist is properly developed. After all, it's the A&R who discovered, suggested and got the artist to be signed, so it is going to be the A&R's ass and reputation on the line.
