I had an offer from a lyricist in Australia.
She says she has been singing professionally for over 20 years.
She's interested in putting my music to her lyrics.
- an International Collaboration.
.
Ok. I read lyrics from about 15 of her songs, and they're not bad. I kind of think she's for real.
She says she has a contract with a company in Nashville, interested in
promoting her songs for a small percentage of the royalties.
.
Ok.
What questions should I ask her?
I'd appreciate any suggestions at all.
Thanks.

Yeah, she's for real. Just got a copy of one of my copyrighted songs back from her, with her lyrics, vocals, and harmonies.
The song is ready to record.
She lives in Australia - half way around the world. She's seems like good people, and we've a 2nd song in the works.
How about a few suggestions on how to go about it?
Or a lead on who I could afford to talk with, on a musicians's salary?
I'd appreciate any suggestions at all . . .
Anybody?
Thanks

We did several songs together.
Her name is Julie Jazz Dubois.
You can hear 2 songs I recorded with her, currently on my MySpace site:
.
> "Folks I Knew (If You Catch Me Crying)"
> "Molasses Blues"
.
I wrote all parts for both of these songs, and perform all the instruments.

Damn, Alan! That's very very cool. It's quite a statement about your abilities when ppl from around the world are willing, nay, eager to work with you & collaborate.

I would suggest you find a competent music law attorney who would be willing to work with you on a contingency basis (if there is such a thing). If your songs get picked up, your legal issues will multiply rapidly since you're working with someone overseas. You will definitely want to sign a contract between you and your lyricist for the songs. This will ensure that her lyrics are married to your songs and that no one else can use them with another musical composition. Your lawyer may want a piece of the publishing action in order to make their money. Speaking of which, you should start your own publishing company, if you haven't already. I would recommend signing with ASCAP since they only charge $50.00; BMI (when I signed up) charged $150.00. Hope this helps.

And also, take the best recording of your song with her lyrics and resubmit it for copyright.
