$675,000 in damages for stealing and sharing songs

On the one hand, yeah, it's wrong to deny the rights of the copyright owner.
On the other, do we really need to prosecute a guy who makes a mix CD for his gf?
This guy went way overboard, as ppl are wont to do, for political reasons (as well as outright admitted theft), not to mention the telling of others how to "beat the system" as well. Hurt him biggly. He & ppl like him are hurting everyone.
