I was roadieing for my friend's metal band (b/c that way i get into concerts for free :P). The house sound guy came up to me before the show and asked "Could you talk to the band about not using distortion tonight? I don't like soundchecking distorted guitars."

no joke, guys.

Too funny!

How old was this sound man? What country (planet?) was he from?

Sounds more like an UNsound man to me. I've worked with a few of them, unfortunately.

Another reason I do my own sound.

Get funny looks sometimes when we walk into a venue the first time and the sound guy / organizer asks me " What do you need ? "
One plug in preferably a dedicated 15-20 amp.
" That's all ??"

Yes sir ! Brought our own equipment, just show me where you want me to plug in!

New Years Eve at the 'French-American Club' in Everett, MA.
We were a classic rock cover band. Learned 4 or 5 'slow' songs because we knew people would want to dance slow there.
We even learned a song in 3/4 for the waltz crowd - Mr. BoJangles (we couldn't find any other 3/4 rock songs to do!)
We finished Mr B and this old guy comes up to the stage and asks me if we 'can play a waltz?' I mumbled something about 'we'll do one later', then turned around towards my amp and laughed out loud.

Oh well, it was funny at the time, and we netted $1000 (for 4 of us) to play until 1am, then another $200 for an extra set of songs after that.
