I beg to differ, Andrew, as it is you who have failed to send me any students. You send 'em, I'll teach & return 'm.

Back to the original topic, anyone in the band who doesn't pay attention to what's going on around him and screws up just because of that. Had a bassist one time that was pretty good at practice, but when we got on stage he was moving around and headbanging and putting on a KILLER show. Only bad thing is, when he did that, he forgot about the music and had way too many klunkers in there for me to enjoy playing. Also hate musicians who, instead of learning the song's basic structure, follow me for all of the changes. Was playing with a band a couple of years ago with a bassist and a keyboardist that were both like that. They depended on my rhythm to show them where to go. Trouble came when I'd go into a lead and they'd get lost. So every time the keys did a solo, it was cool. When I'd do a lead, the song would fall to pieces, making it seem like my fault. How does a bass player screw up something as simple as Johnny B. Goode?

Ha! As a bass player, its the drummers who can't keep time that are most irritating. I've mellowed some over the years, but erratic drummers make me tired.
Also, of course its the super-loud guys. The have a Marshall amp and say "got to crank it up to get the tone". Oh boy, my poor ears. Like someone said, a nice even mix is pleasant to the audience.

Ha ha, this thread has described, to a tee, so many "musicians" that I've actually played with, (myself included, in my younger days).
From the way too loud lead guitarist who says "I need the volume to get my tone 'cuz it's a tube amp" to the vocalist who has to be waaaay out front in the mix, the harp player that won't shut up and the too loud and/or unsteady drummer.
I don't know which is worse. One thing for sure is, I'd hate to hear them all in the same band... lol

Consider this. If the term "harp" only pertains to the stringed variaty, then the word"Gay" only means "happy".And the noun "faggot" is nothing but the bundle of sticks that I burn in my masonry wood stove. If I was jammin' in a Chicago blues club, I sure nuff wouldn't refer to my instrument as a "Harmonica" nor a "mouth organ". :P
You'll know a good blues harp player when you hear one. Just like a good piper. :D

People who can't shut the hell up when you get on stage and havn't even started yet. You know? You've just stepped on, there's those precious few moments to quickly check the amps and get ready- waiting for the go ahead from the sound man so you can 'burst' into some well rehearsed music to give a fantastic start to the gig-

And some idiot starts tinkering around on his or her instrument (or mic).

Tempted to say the drummer, but purely because it's more noticable when the drummer is doing it- but anyone who keeps speeding up and up and up lol.
