Some of you experinced folk who also have knowldge of all things electric.
How / what kind of eqipment is requiered to power your systems by generator. A few of the local ranchers here have some real neat places where I could set op and promote my own "music festival" but available electricity to these sites is damned rare. ( one of the locations is almost a natural ampi theater) Most of the D/C generators I have seen have an A/C out or converion of some type. Would one need a conditioner as well?
I intend to contact the service reps for Carvin about my PA and Amp.
Thoughts?

I was gonna reply yesterday but my posts in this forum might as well be invisible most of the time.

But since nobody else is chiming in I'll tell ya what I know from my experience. Definitely use a conditioner. Make sure you have plenty of headroom amp (amperes) wise, if your close to the max amps and you all hit a power chord it can blow the breaker. If you can use two and split the load equally. Make sure you have a good size metal spike and some heavy gauge wire so you can ground the generator good. Otherwise you can get some nasty hum and even the occasional shock. Several 100' extension cords are a must too since they can be pretty noisy.

The hippies I used to play with went solar, believe it or not.

These days they show up with a tripod that they hang a screen on, & they use it to power all of their equipment.

I haven't seen it personally, but I know they used it to power a stage for a local ceremony to open a bridge, & the governor attended & made a speach, & then there were a cpl bands playing through it, so it must do the trick. I'm told it even works on cloudy days. It's got to be a helluva lot quieter than a generator.

Of course this would only work in the day time.

I should look into this. I wonder how much power it actually generates, & how effective it really is.

My experience with generators has usually been less than great, but that's due to the fact that most ppl don't use conditioners.

I have much experience in constructing sound attenuation enclosures from my oilfield days. Many of our process areas (tank batteries) were in town right up against peoples homes. Chemical and especially gas recovery pumps are much louder than a modern generator.
Solar huh. Umm sounds damned expensive to me Philby. When you get more info let me know and I will do a economic comparison for us.

Solar powered portable generator to power an entire band? How about a wind-powered portable generator? Or a hydrogen fuel cell powered generator? These ideas are not too far fetched. As we advance in green technology and as some of these start being mass produced, the cost will come down. I remember the first manufactured hand-held calculator was selling for over $500. Now they give them away and they have many more functions than their predecessors. I believe the next hundred years will be truly exciting in terms of our society going through a complete revolution in green technology. There will be growing pains along the way (check the price of gas lately?). Think of the advances in instruments, amplifiers, speakers, etc. in the last fifty years. Someday you'll be able to carry your entire band equipment in a few small, light cases and have WAY more power and WAY better sound than we have today. I hope I'm able to play music long enough to enjoy those changes that are coming our way. Later...
