I currently use a midiman delta 66... 4out 4in balanced... and I'm thinking about an upgrade... I've heard some horror stories about firewire interfaces... but was pondering a move to an ardvark or something...

what do you use/like?

budget restrictions had forced me into a tascam dp-01 a couple yearss ago. For what it's worth, a decent 8-track digital recorder on HDD, 2 in, although no XLR in. The only part that I regret is not paying $100 extra for a fostex that had almost identical features on top of XLR inputs.

Oh well. Can't win them all. But again, it's a decent recorder, and anything I would want better, I would just go to a professional studio for anyways.

For just tracking ideas I use a cheap Lexicon Omega w/ Cubase LE and it works great for what it cost, about $200. Then I bought a Behringer 1204FX board to add some more headroom which was also cheap. I don't know much about this end of things, but it was easy to setup and use. Both the board and the interface have XLR and 1/4 inch inputs which is a nice feature as well.

I just run the mic to the board, then to the interface, then to the computer through USB 2.0 and this leaves plenty of headroom without having to run the trim too high on any channel and cause distortion through the recording. I don't know about firewire though although this interface has both capabilities...

I was thinking firewire cause it's much faster than usb2...
love that behringer stuff... it's a bit cheap in terms of knobs breaking etc... but they got sued by mackie for their preamp design... for a reason.

I would go with Presonus. They are very easy to work with and sound great! The support from Presonus is also very good!

8) Ive been looking into sound cards w/ an analog mixer going into it. ther are some out ther that can be chained up to 32 chnnels I/O and from the reviews they seem to work really well. Any body used any of these? At about $200.00 each it would be a pretty easy and cheap way to do it although I know cheap in is usually cheap out.
